We can already do that? (implemented?) 1. Select what you want to copy 2. Move to an empty layer or create one 3. Copy to new layer upper right Think the easiest is to select all on the current layer if you want the whole thing.
A single button would be faster. As far as utility, yes this is definitely useful, particularly if you want to rebrush and offset may also be a good way to flip L to R and keep the sides on different layers, create complex backgrounds using repetition without getting things muddled, or duplicate objects like figures that you might want to do diferent things with after cloning

Yeah - i think it's a case of "are there currently too many clicks needed to do this common action?" - I think it's currently three clicks (assuming you've got the right panels visible) - assuming this button would be in the three dots menu due to space constraints, the best we could get it down to would be two clicks - so is it worth it? I guess it's more intuitive to have an explicit action so that's a point in favour. I need to have a play and get a feel for the pros and cons.

Three clicks if everything is on the same page group.
One of the trickier parts of working with something like an anatomy piece with a lot of layers.
Might be helpful to have a hot button to jump to the previous layer so you don't have to tab between them using the arrows
