Off-Price Retailers (TJ Maxx, Marshall's, etc.) - Topic of the day 5/16/24
Do you shop at off-price retailers (such as TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross, and the like)? Why or why not?

I've got a bunch of le creuset mugs I got at marshalls
pretty awful for menswear. Great for homegoods
i love shopping at these places and finding bad gucci with ripped sleeves for nearly retail. also a great spot for yuppie deoderants (malin goetz)
I got a PRL italian tweed sport coat in TK Maxx for like 80% off retail and the other 50 times I went in I didn't find shit.
This doesn't really exist like that in Canada. Maybe Winners?
Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off Fifth is where you're going to get the highest luxury/"brand-name" yield, at least on the US East Coast, though no doubt they're a different market segment than TJ Maxx, Kohl's, Ross, or K Mart.
I've seen Gucci and Rick at the local Saks Off Fifth, Veilance at the Nordstrom Rack. Obviously depends on your specific area/store too, but if you live in an area with luxury retailers, you're more likely to see that stuff at the clearance stores.
why is it TK in the UK?
You'd have to ask someone in the UK :xd: . J/k, no idea.
ah shit you're Irish right
good for underwear/socks/gifts for people you dislike on a budget
for everything else it's market dependent (though i did randomly see todd snyder in a tj maxx once lmao)
Like thrifting, for new stuff
tbh the only place I’ve seen good stuff is Nordstrom rack and saks off fifth
The rack does a lot of altered returns
I found an ader error jacket at the rack once
I’ve gotten cool stuff from Nordstrom Rack, they are have very smooth customer service so I sometimes prefer to use them over other retailers
There's an existing UK retailer called TJ Hughes. They wanted to avoid confusion.
The only things i’ve found success with at these stores are ribbed tanks, socks, underwear, home stuff like candles, and occasionally grooming stuff like body wash or cologne
Nordstrom rack is its own thing and definitely has good brands imo
Both can be hit or miss but when they hit, they hit
have also gotten some really nice pillows from TJ Maxx lol 🛏️
TJ Maxx (and it’s associated stores) are GOATed for homegoods tbh
You would love Homegoods
I go there more than I like to admit
Being a twelve year old with no impulse control in the tj maxx candle section is probably one of the more overwhelming sensory shopping experiences you can subject yourself to lmao
I still remember how that headache felt
thx
TJ Maxx and marshalls good for finding darn tough socks and nice running socks
And Hanes ribbed tanks lol
Nordstrom rack has decent shoe trees
Yeah they have finds like that but it seems the consensus is that the actual secondhand market is more worthwhile
tk maxx in the UK have a bunch of curveballs. Over winter it was stacks of A Cold Wall for fractions of retail
Variable to where you are though, that will never sell in Liverpool, but any decent trainer selection is picked clean
God I wish, I love darn tough and there is no cheap option or sales here
Agree with everyone mentioning homegoods (or Homegoods), but I feel like I strike out or just never get the finds I see others get online.
Great option for growing kids though and items that you're not looking at for long-term, especially for events, like a wedding
I have never, not once even in a different size or terrible pattern seen darn tough socks at any of these
I've seen them at least 3 separate times!
I'm in Nassau county NY outside NYC
