suit for a guy that never wears suits
Jumping off the other thread - I’m also looking for a suit for occasions when the odd jacket won’t do.
I prefer a more casual approach to tailoring and would like to have that reflected. So I’m looking for something unstructured in maybe cotton (open to light wool as well) - possibly undarted. High waist trousers (13 inch +) are a must, because I have a long torso. Also it’d be practical if I can get the trousers in a separate size from the jacket. I need a bigger trouser size because of my shape.
Price wise I’m flexible (willing to save up), but for 1500+ I might as well go m2m with my local menswear guy.
I’ve tried the universal works London jacket but it didnt work for me size-wise. The style I liked a lot.

I'll perhaps suggest against the v casual vibe you want. Imo if you need a suit it's nice to have "the" suit that can do anything you need.
Ik you're not in the US but a good approach would be a SB dark navy suit in a 3-season fabric like a hopsack or similar. I think that will also do well in the EU but I'm not an expert.
I think this article is still apt

What Should You Get for Your First Suit?
There are a lot of articles about what you should get for your first suit. Maybe more than the number...
It should give you a bit of an idea of what to look for if you do want to go for a true tailoring suit rather than vvv casual cotton jacket and pants type that Universal Works sells
It’s not my first suit. I’ve had suits, I’ve worn suits, I’ve decided suits are not for me. For most occasions where a jacket is required I can do an odd jacket and that’ll be fine.
I need or rather want something suit adjacent though. It’s a stylistic choice rather than one born of necessity. I have in the past ~6 years not had one occasion where I’d have needed a proper suit and I doubt I need one before my wedding - and that’s a few years out.
honestly in that case I wouldn't really bother. If you haven't needed one in 6 years I wouldn't spend $1500 on it just to check the box
I’d like to have an alternative to a blazer+ trousers combo though - that’s what this is about.
Keep an eye on SEH Kelly offerings maybe. They usually do something as separates that can be brought as a casual suit every season.
Great suggestion, thanks!
SFC suit perhaps
ahh I see, my mistake. Good suggestions above
