Favorites Series: Cardigans - Topic of the day 4/19/24

What are your favorite cardigans? Favorite brands at low medium and high price points? What do you look for in a cardigan? What brands have been great for them and what brands have really let you down? Do you prefer button or zip cardigans? Thin or chunky? Plain or designs? Feel free to share a few of your favorite fits or inspo that feature cardigans, too. (Note: the Favorites Series will be running ~weekly as a new way of doing the "Best X for $X" threads from a few years ago on MFA.)

I feel like Kanata are slept on, for hand knit intarsia they are incredibly reasonably priced.

One of these days when the stars align and colour and pattern is right my long search for a reasonably priced RRL ranch cardigan will bear fruit and I'll nab one of these monsters:

Chamula has fantastic options. No Man Walks Alone does great orders from them via Monitaly or however that works. My turquoise one is from them and maybe my favorite. The real clutch play is to go to Mexico and get a huge 3d knit cardigan for like no money. The wool is very rough and mine literally has bits of like leaves in the yarns but it's easily the coolest knit I own

Screaming crying and throwing up that I didn’t buy up every vtg mohair cardigan I saw before like 2019

Always buttons or just fully open on cardigans for me. Favorites are Vince (mid range) and Celine (high)

The best ones that I have seen for a more expensive price point are Inverallan and RRL

Only one I’ve really kept though is this absolute piece of moth food from the 60’s

have a big-ass inverallan one that's too hot for inside but wind goes right through it outside, barely wear it but don't want to let it go because it's too good otherwise

found this old orvis one and it serves all the purposes i need - pockets, grandpa-coded, large enough to wear stuff under it

thanks; it's rather warm so i haven't gotten much use aside from the days where it's ridiculously cold https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1219667919303217204

My only regret is I only bought 1 RIP to the NMWA x Scott & Charters collab The Indi + Ash alpaca blend cardigan that Standard & Strange stocks is real good. I sold the one I had because it was just too big, but I’ll probably get another one this fall

Yeah unfortunately they just weren’t reliable enough so they had to dead that Yeah and William Lockie is also superb so it’s fine Colhays is another good knitmaker, although their patterns run very slim

I love cardigan too, at home most of the time because a shawl cardigan feels weird with a coat by maybe I haven’t find the right pairing Does anyone had a Drake’s cardigan, I’m interested on a feedback

I’ve also found it’s hard to pair a shawl collar with a coat. Typically I’ll only wear a shawl collar item as the outermost layer
