I am stumped. I have a V-Core 3.1 400, btt-octopus-11, cooled TMC 2209 + LDO-42STH48-2504AC, enclosed. There are other modifications, but nothing that should cause my issue. I recently reinstalled software after trying to upgrade. After reinstalling the software, I have a problem with stepper_Z2. Physically, it’s been running more or less flawlessly for about 24 months. 24 months ago, I modified the setup so that when it completed printing the bed would automatically drop to 250mm so I could open the doors and remove the printout. Thus, it would raise the bed when doing the Z-homing. This worked for 24 months. After upgrading to the latest software, when raising the bed from 250mm to home, the Z2 (front right) stepper seems to “lag”, meaning that it ends up about 70 mm short. This does not happen when the bed lowers, only when it rises. When the bed is this out of trim it fails to trim when I do a Z-tilt (either the Z or Z1 stepper would hit the maximum and I get an error message). If I raise the bed by hand to less than 100mm then I have no problem running the Z-tilt, or when I park the bed at 100mm, it seems to work 100% correctly. I have printed things that would show if there the Z2 stepper was a problem. I printed the ringing_tower used to verify proper Resonance Compensation. It looks great. I printed a 90mm cube ending up with a very precise cube 90mm cube. I printed a 200mm 10x10 tower, that's great. Then I printed a 200x200x200 Box and its exactly 200x200x200. Everything seems to be the exact height on the Z-axis. It seems, and I stress seems, to happen in the middle of the vertical movement. I have checked the wiring. The wiring seems correct. It does not seem to be rubbing on anything. I can not see anything physically wrong (it’s a possibility, I just need some evidence). I am hoping for some suggestions for what to try, what to look for.

Unscrew the linear rail carriage and see if it moves freely or binding. Could be you need to lube the back linear rail.

Good idea. I will try. That makes sense, thngs can drift over time.
