Encoder Settings For High Quality Recording Only
My System: i9-12900K 3.20 GHz; 64 GB DDR5; NVIDIA 3080Ti; W11 Pro; recording to SSD. Goal: I want to make sure I have the best OBS settings for recording (not streaming) high-action games such as Overwatch and Rust that have allot of screen movement. Here is a screenshot of my OBS Recording Settings. What changes should I make to accomplish my goal? My preference is for quality over file size (within reason).

Change it to nvenc HEVC
Then can drop CQ to 20, preset doesn’t matter so you can lower it for performance
Why doesnt preset matter?
With CQP you’re targeting a specific quality level. You’ll hit that regardless of the other settings
So the slower presets will save you some bitrate efficiency to achieve that, but won’t be noticeable
So all the other settings are essentially pointless? gasp
I did switch from lookahead to psycho after re-reading other topics here.
nono, turn off psycho for recording
they're pointless for recording, they're beneficial for low bitrate-constained streaming
