Aligning models
You can use it to snap a model that you've already added to a fixed point. Do your models align correctly outside of Open Brush? i.e. do they have the same anchor points?

Short answer: Pretty sure, yes
Longer answer: They're ply files collected at different times from the same reef: one in 2020 and one in 2021. I was given an affine transform to align the second to the first, which I applied in CloudCompare, so they should be aligned. I will try out a couple of much simpler pointclouds that I 100% know to be aligned first.
Can you recommend a tutorial/video/instruction set on how to snap a model to a point in the alignment grid?
I don't think there are any but you're welcome to make one once you suss it out!
Happy to help - if I know where people get stuck I can improve the docs for this feature
In my mind it's all pretty obvious - but then I did design it so I've probably got a blind spot. 😉
Roger that! When I get a chance, I'll make a screen recording of me attempting it. Even if I don't succeed that should help us figure out where the points of confusion are
Ok! After playing around some more with the alignment menu, I think I understand how to work it. I can align a model with itself. The reef pointclouds won't align, but the problem may be with the transform I used on the reef files. (In fact, this may be a way to check those realignments in the future...)
I'll look over the transform in CloudCompare and continue experimenting.
