Theme WAYWT Debrief: Skinny and Tapered Fit Pants - Topic of the day 2/5/24
Theme WAYWT from the weekend is now over! We saw many interesting takes on outfits with slim, tapered, and skinny fit pants from the community. Which outfits were the highlights for you? Who had the most creative styling? What were the ways people styled these pants without looking dated? Did this challenge change the way you think about skinny/tapered pants? If you contributed, did you find the theme challenging? Share your reflections with us.

Think those were the ones I liked where it felt like the slimness was the correct choice, and not chosen just because of theme (eg: wider pants would make the fits worse)
Great rundown smiles ty. Well said
Had a lot of fun with this one
Appreciate the folks like dylan, mew, and spaghetti who emphasized skinny bottoms with a bigger/oversized top
Fits in the challenge were largely incredible and I think it highlights that regardless of what cut you go with (skinny, slim, wide, straight, tapered, flared) the important part is being intentional about it.
A lot of great ones, but my favorites were raisin's and casey's, as mentioned above.
Casey’s was my fav, just felt so natural.
I took away that there is a very different perception of "skinny" or "sharp taper" today than a few years ago. To be really reductive, a lot more of a "501" silhouette in the outfits compared to the 2010 "petite standard sized down 3"
Certainly not bad wrong, just thought it was an observation worth sharing!
I don't think all of the fits actually fit the theme ngl
I think they all fit! Everything is a flavor of slim pants. I think it's cool how we've reckoned with the 2010s and think everyone's got a really grounded vision of pants silhouettes. Way more based in reality than the past
I thought going with leggings in a hiking fit would be a fun and out of the box way of tackling the theme, but ultimately I think my attempt fell short a bit because I was using the slim pants as an obstacle to work around. In contrast, I'm impressed by many of the contributors such as casey, mew, raisin, sal, and others, who used the slimmer pants as features / focal points in great outfits
Personal projection -- I got slammed in 2014 by the internet for a pair of what are ultimately slim painter pants as being Too Relaxed. As someone too-online for too-long, it's truly great to see that perception has changed
The "slim fit" of 2015 MFA was very "I did SL5x5 and bought stretch chinos in a 'lifter/athletic' cut. Lots of slim straight cuts are actually good if they actually fit you. There's a difference between the wide straight cuts that are popular now and a western/vintage straight fit imo where the top block can be quite slim but you still get the clean straight silhouette in the leg
Its just that 2015 slim fit would probably be considered skinny today, since skinny then was just jeggings basically
I dont actually own anything from the skinny era still :sadhaw:
I was late to the party, but Im still amazed that in 2018 I thought that these jeans where unreasonably baggy. The early 2010's really did a number on my brain
despite managing two entries and having a preference for slim fits it was more difficult than expected lol
one was admittedly a pisstake but both felt like functional fits that would have been better served with fuller pants or shoe's
The tapered jeans I was wearing in one of my theme pics felt very wide for me in 2019 when I bought them. It’s wild how much things change in your head over time
It was fun to have another theme-waywt and that so many people contributed. There were a lot of good fits but I think smiles hit the nail on the head with the conclusion that the best fits don't just feature slim pants but the slim pants are integral to the coolness of the fit. I definitely feel like I didn't manage to do that but I still had fun puting some fits together and wearing pants that won't sell lol. Looking forward to the next theme!
Really liked tim and dang's slim fit pant + Chelsea combos, v nice silhouette
I have 1 pair of Blue Blue Japan slim jeans but they were actually called “regular straight” when they came out. lol.
Pray for me I bought my first slim tapered and skinny pants in 2022. I had just worn the regular fit my parents would buy me prior to that. Feel like I've been speedrunning the last 15 years.
You're just waaay ahead of the curve don't worry
Raisin's was definitely my favorite, but there were so many good ones. Agree pretty much with what everyone has said that the best ones played with the skinny pants as an intentional piece of the silhouette.
Yours was my fave you looked so hawt homie
thanks boo 😘
