penny loafers vs tassel loafers

Looking to buy a pair of black loafers for my wardrobe. Undecided on whether or not I should get a pair of tassel loafers or penny loafers. Anyone able to fill me in on whether or not the styles serve different niches/are more appropriate for different looks? Currently leaning towards the ones with the strap. Here's a couple of examples of the ones I'm looking at on ebay

Your style is kinda menswear/prep adjacent right? Penny loafers are definitely more associated with prep/ivy Tassel gives more lazy luxe vibes to me

Full strap pennies are more formal. I personally would go with the tassels. They can be dressed up and down pretty easily especially if they're calf

Idt I’ve ever heard that. Full strap loafers are more formal than the normal half strap loafers and I don’t think they can be dressed down as much as tassels can

Oh I thought you were saying strap Vs tassels, my bad. I honestly don't think there is a difference between full Vs half strap in formality though.

Tassels are great but they are kind of the “go to hell” of loafers if you’re wearing them more casually. Penny loafers are much easier to wear casually but harder to dress up. You can’t really go wrong with either just a matter of personal preference. For me, color 8 penny and black tassels are the move
