Costuming Alien: The Perfect Nightmare - The Art of Costume
On Alien Day 2021, The Art of Costume explores costuming Alien and the perfect nightmare designed by costume designer John Mollo and H.R. Giger.
I bore myself with how repetitive I am on here but sure it is what it is.
still need to watch that
it's good but the costuming is the best part of it
Those knits are Chunky
All done by one octogenarian. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/10/style/colin-farrell-sweaters-the-banshees-of-inisherin.html

A Knitwear Sensation at 83
How Delia Barry, the octogenarian who knitted Colin Farrell’s cozy “Banshees of Inisherin” sweaters, became an internet star.
I really need to see that movie since I lived In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths. That director does not miss
Everyone talks about Chris Evans in this movie but Daniel Craig’s look is so good. I want his glasses so bad but they’re $$$ and I’m scared they’ll get here and not fit
Not necessarily inspo for my personla style at the moment, but Hackers is the most swagged out movie of all time
The costuming is one of the best parts about my favorite movie, The Fall. It's all done by Eiko Ishioka who is an incredibly talented costume designer and worked with Tarsem Singh on a bunch of his films.
Not really a stylish movie but the first Captain America convinced me that chinos can be worn casually. Before that I viewed “khakis” as church pants from my childhood. I was in college when the movie came out for reference
EEAAO was wardrobed by Shirley Kurata, Alien: Covenant was designed by Craig Green, Inherent Vice, and of course Easy Rider
I’ll have to add pictures in a bit, but putting down notes as a marker: Poor Things, Station Eleven, Killers of the Flower Moon are all recent favorites for costume
partially biased toward sopranos, since I've started it last year
Paulie and Chrissy both have some legendary fits
The kingsman for that sweet tailoring
I was a fan of Justified for western wear and Appalachian workwear
The Nice Guys
Also started this show recently, some great fits
this is a great topic. Enys Men’s costuming blew me away. Set in 1973 and the costumes were on point but not overpowering
damn, I meant to see this and forgot
it’s in my top 10 of all time but definitely isn’t for everyone. super slow moving and i’d go so far as to say it’s like an ambient movie lol
hmmm, not necessarily a bad thing imo, I need to make a note
also adding My Own Private Idaho
I love pulling pulling influence from different types of media and dressing like the lead in my own movie, Ralph Lauren style. The biggest influence has been Twin Peaks, especially the initial run's 50's plaids and knits in warm wooden interiors. Very "Dreamy Autumn". I made an inspo post with a lot more photos just recently lol
hell yeah
Twin Peaks is some of the best wardrobe / styling ever imo. So so good
For real! The wardrobe designer understood how to perfectly convey personalities through skirts, plaids and chamois shirts
Michael Mann’s mandate of “no earth tones” for the first two seasons of Miami Vice he worked on are probably my favorite looks ever and led to me buying two cheap linen suits for $60 each as my first ever menswear purchases before I joined this server and found out LRL isn’t an actual RL brand lol. But I’ve only been seriously into fashion for a few months since graduating college so looking at all like Don Johnson is still my dream aesthetic despite living in the Midwest and not Miami
I’m also unsure if there’s a single New Hollywood era film where anyone ever looked bad and not a living embodiment of the coolest dudes to ever live (Steve McQueen in Bullitt, Paul Newman in Harper, Robert Redford in Three Days of the Condor, and Richard Gere in American Gigolo)
For a real geeky example– I love how RPG's, particularly Japanese ones, blend real designer styles with fantasy elements to convey character personalities. There's workwear/Americana, steampunk sportswear, Harajuku all-black outfits, etc. I owe it to those games for thinking about how I'm styling myself as a main character with silhouettes, accessories and jewelry.
It's so true, and that American Gigolo polo coat is on my mind all the time.
Legion on Hulu is great for inspo, I'll try to crawl for photos
So many interesting fits that really communicate
For colors, I really like Umbrellas of Cherbourg and In the Mood for Love. When Harry Met Sally for those who like the 90s too. For a more recent one, After Yang hits that just-futuristic-enough look that Her did in 2013.

God I love that show
I think about Amano's character design work for the Front Mission series all the time (my discord avatar is from Gun Hazard). Love the billowy pants and the slightly androgynous approach to military wear.
These are fantastic
I couldn't many great photos online, maybe I'll try and screenshot through the show
legion has amazing style
I have a folder on my phone for when I was working on a legion inspo album
The octagonal shades are so good, I remember trying to find those
The runway scene in Liquid Sky has always been there for me
