What brand of pants are a good step up from J. Crew?
I’m looking for straight fit chinos that are a step up from J Crew. Todd Snyder chinos seem well-constructed with good material, but are often considered overpriced.
Where can I get a quality pair of chinos for under $200?

I picked up a pair of slim fit chinos and a couple pairs of relaxed fit chinos during their Black Friday sale. I thought the relaxed fit was a little too wide for my skinny legs, so I ended up returning them. I may just end up buying the straight fit chinos at full price.

Tho personally I don't really like chinos that are a less full cut than the j Crew relaxed ones

Yeah I'm not sure if j crew chinos would actually wear out faster than the more expensive brands mentioned

It seems like most of what I’ve been buying from J. Crew has worn out fairly quickly, but maybe their chinos are still okay. I’ve had a few pairs of 484s, but don’t love the fit (too tight in the crotch)

I bought these https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/slim-garment-dyed-5-pocket-twill-ochre-rust, and the fabric feels better (thicker) than JCrew.
Depending on the exact issue idt you’ll get much better longevity by spending more money honestly. It’s most likely a fit issue (probably too tight as you mention)
I just tried the 770s and they didn’t seem to fit well at all
