Database run out of storage space
Hi,
My postgres Database has just run out of storage overnight, and now not booting up because of that.
Are there any recommended approached for how to get a copy of that data or something so I can actually get the DB back online?
Since I'm on Hobby, I'm unable to upgrade storage to help things.

you can upgrade to pro to get access to a 50gb volume then you can grow your current volume to 50gb as well
I'm fully aware that's a possibility but:
1. I'm not able to change billing settings (and the person who can won't be awake for another 8 hours or so - production has already been down for at least 6 hours, making that 14 hours isn't ideal)
2. Pro is quite a steep price increase - would be an extra $60/month from what I can tell.
sounds like you should have already been on pro, but lets put that aside for now
And, to be honest - the same question as mine above would apply if on pro and I had hit the 50GB (I think?) limit instead.
ill ask the team what can be done, but since youre on hobby i dont know if the answer would be any different from what ive said
once youre on the pro plan and if you hit the 50gb limit you can directly ask the team to increase it, for whatever that would cost im not sure
ive asked the team, ill either get back to you with an answer or someone from the team will come to this thread, no eta though sorry
Alright.
I've also just realised that for the same reason as not being able to change billing settings - I also can't attempt to disconnect the volume and connect it to a file viewer - which is frustrating.
dont think editors can do destructive actions, thats why youd want to be on pro going forward, not to mention you said you where running something in production
this is indeed a pickle
all the more frustrating that the only reason I woke up later this morning - and as such missed when the person with permissions would still be awake - is because my phone didn't charge overnight and so had died before my alarm could go off :/
yo my phone didn't charge overnight last night either π€£
but yeah I get how stressful this is, and I've asked the team, that's about all I can do short of directly pinging someone in, and I don't want to do that because I don't know the teams time zones
Thanks for trying π Now just trying to figure out how safe it would be if I were to attempt to restore from a backup (on a new DB instance) - I'm thinking probably not too safe unfortunately.
there's a good change that restoring from a backup would just bloat a new 5gb volume and you'd be in the same place
I can restore a backup without the logs table, lol - it's just that table causing issues.
But said backup isn't recent enough to be a safe bet to go with.
how often do you take backups?
.
important person here now!
This volume, yes? https://railway.app/project/03366656-1bad-4591-bfdd-134b17afd697/volume/cbbc2db4-611b-41b3-9f92-5e9a27962265/metrics
Railway
Railway
Railway is an infrastructure platform where you can provision infrastructure, develop with that infrastructure locally, and then deploy to the cloud.
Correct
Bumping it to 10 GB to unblock you.
Hmm, something is failing with the update. :/
Does it need an active deployment for it to update?
Done.
Thank you!
I'll have to see about getting Mick to upgrade us to Pro when he's awake π
Regarding this question, you can reach out and upgrade the limit for you in that scenario as well. IIRC upgrades up to 250 GB are instant and anything beyond goes into enterprise territory.
Fair enough - nice to hear that isn't a hard limit - not that I think I'll ever hit that π
Well, my systems are back online, I can't thank you enough for that π
Moved to Pro plan π
congratulations! π₯³
