How do you make sure a raw denim jacket doesn’t seem too barrel-like?
I am considering getting a Sugar Cane type 2 jacket off Grailed, and it’s final sale. The measurements match me in sleeve length, back length, and shoulder and chest. However, I’m worried even with these measurements, I won’t know if this jacket is going to make my stomach area look big. It’s not like I have a big protruding stomach, but I’ve noticed when I try on other denim jackets, some of them are too big in the stomach area. It seems barrel-like or cylindrical. It could be that the new stiffness is making it stick out more, but even at denim stores the store staff will tell me certain jackets are too big for me in the stomach area even though the rest of the jacket fits well. Here are a couple images that sort of illustrate what I’m saying. I feel like it’s something off with the dimensions or maybe pocket placement. Do I have to get stomach area measurements…? I guess overall I’m just looking for tips on ensuring the best fit for me if I’m going for a cropped slightly oversized look, especially since I can’t try this item on. Thanks.

It is the stiff starch in it. I have the washed and raw ones. The more you wear and washed, the softer they become and would look like a jacket instead of a can
Agreed with rz. These will drape much better as they wear in.
Even without washing, if you want high contrast fadezzz
Another thing is they shrink with wash, if u wash in hot water. My 2 years wash orslow type 2 shrank in pit measurement and it a slim instead of boxy fit i had since beginning, but it is a thing u wouldnt know til u wear it for a while.
If you want a quick way to soften it up a bit throw it in the dryer on AIR DRY (no heat) with a couple of tennis balls
Will that decrease the fade potential though?
Maybe a bit. The fades probably won’t be super crispy if that’s what you’re going for
