Actually they are baggier than I remembered around the knees lol
hemming would be chainstitch hem
Maybe try double cuffing them? Or even triple
I’d agree that the single cuff looks too big tho
would a chainstitch ruin the aesthetic?
Giant cuff
Mmm not really, it just might not be necessary
If you cuff along the hemline for a neater cuff you're gonna have to cuff like 5-6 times. Which will look a tad silly imo
If you like pooling I wouldn't change. But if you order low breaks then would need a hem
what are low breaks?
Your personal preference of fit shapes the answer here, really.
This isn't a 1:1 visual because these are slim fit
True, I meant like an inch/inch and a half long cuff that you keep on folding up, probably wouldn’t have to do more than three times. If the cuff gets too thick tho it can look weird
But basically the inseam length influences how the bottom of your jeans will fit
thinking a full break would make sense
Yee what I recommend with jeans is having a full break w/o cuffing, so that you can go to no break with cuffs if you want
i think a chain stitch hem makes sense then. will make sure to be clear that that's the break i want so they don't hem too much
thank you both of you!
You do not need to chainstitch an old pair of Silvertabs but I think hemming is good
I don't know that baggy jeans need a big ass cuff personally. some pooling would look cool with these but they're way too long now.
@Benjiara is this what you’re expecting with a chain stitch?

Turn the cuffs into bracelets
Yah, that's actually a pic from the site of where I'm planning to get them hemmed
idk what that is, but that's not chainstitching

You want a double hem?? Also that’s not a chain stitch hem. A chain stitch is just a type of well stitch.
Oh?
I think so?
i think it's their weird ass pictures confusing us maybe
chainstitch is just they're hemming your pants as normal but using an old union special machine to give it a chainstitch
Aight idk why but they explicitly call out that they DONT do those reattaching hems
But they show that picture anyway
this doesn't make sense because there's no fold on the hem that's higher up
the bottom specifically
the video on the page looks normal though
That's strange lol
Why do you want the double hem?
Is that what will make the hem least noticeable?
what do you mean least noticeable. you want to see the stitching on denim.
No just get them hemmed. That will make it the least noticeable
I’m not sure what you mean by “least noticeable” but the thing you want is just a plain hem. They don’t need a chain stitch or anything like that
I'm a lil confused. Isn't it risky to hem jeans without a chain stitch machine?
Not at all
What’s the risk?
Am now realizing that the bottom pic is a before and the upper line is a chalk line and not a double hem
Faded pair is just a regular hem. Dark pair is chainstitched. Only noticeable difference is the double stitch on the chainstitch.
And the price, the chainstitch was like twice as expensive
Thank you! But in this case, the chain stitch only costs $20 so is there any downside to the chain stitch aside from the cost?
Nah, it’s just overkill
Denim nerds do it because it’s “traditional” and the union special chainstitch kinda pulls the hem to get roping fades
Not really necessary on a pair of silvertabs but no real downside
Like I can get regular pants hemmed for $10 but I doubt i could spend much less than $20 for any sort of jeans hemming
Ok cool thank you!
It's important to note that a longer inseam means a lower crotch, and maybe a slightly taller waist cause it's built for someone with longer legs.
meaning that area will fold awkwardly when walking
will also not feel very comfortable when walking most likely
that's my understanding anyways
so you might have to do more than hem to get them fit properly cause they look pre long as of now
youd probably also have to have the rise heightened as well as a hem
Counterpoint: Nah?
These are baggy jeans they don’t need to be impeccably tailored and rebuilt.
they dont need to be perfect
agreed
but they'll probably look super saggy in the crotch
will definitely look strange, even if baggy
proportions will be off
comment was meant to advise on how to refit the jeans to him maintaining the original cut.
