Ok i start, i would like to have this bag very much https://www.filson.eu/products/filson-man-rugged-twill-tote-bag-fmbag0021w0174wp-308
Filson Europe
RUGGED TWILL TOTE BAG
Our Tote Bag is made from water-repellent, abrasion-resistant Rugged Twill for durability and weather resistance. A roomy interior holds bulky items, and four exterior pockets store small essentials. Topped off with premium Italian cow leather handles.
I have a "rugged twill original briefcase" in tan that I love
Don't see this on their site anymore but this has been my bag for the office for several years and it's been pretty awesome
They got a lot more expensive since I bought this though. I'm not sure I would buy (at retail) at the current prices
They've also stopped making almost everything in the US.
the last thing to go was the bags i think
I have a Filson field bag that's my every day carry for dog walks and travel. I've gone through a ton of day bags over the years and this has lasted longer than any.
Anyone own a Filson Wool Mackinaw Work Jacket? I need to get an idea of sizing. I'm assuming that I am either a small or a medium, but I need the P2P to be around 23" and length around 25" or 26". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
They still make quite a few things in the US, the article circulating a few days ago misled a few people. They are outsourcing to California for the rest of their stock https://www.seattletimes.com/business/filson-to-outsource-most-of-remaining-seattle-production-to-california/
The Seattle Times
126-year-old Seattle company to move most production jobs to CA
The 126-year-old Seattle company is making further cuts to its manufacturing operation, as costs make the region less attractive to clothing manufacturing.
Still very unfortunate because their Seattle workshop was the backbone of the brand
Mildblend in Chicago carries Filson jackets every season so I stopped by to take a look a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately all their new tin cloth jackets appear to be Made in Bangladesh. As far as I could tell their wool jackets were still MiUSA. Non-MiUSA isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker for me, but recently offshored products don’t have an established track record of longevity and so I’m not inclined to give them a shot.
Something I've found very annoying about Filson is that the secondhand market is outrageous, people try to sell pre-owned Filson stuff at or near retail price all the time, sometimes even higher than retail. Very stupid and frustrating!
It's a problem currently with us workwear brands, good luck finding an old style Made in Mexico/USA Detroit jacket from carhartt anywhere near retail.
I have a flannel from them I got last year, made in india but a very substantial fabric and very robust buttons. I like it quite a bit
This Winter sale is noteworthy for having a bunch of stuff at 50% off: https://www.filson.com/sale.html
Hey, I'm interested in buying one of these messenger/briefcases, I'm curious to know you our anyone else's experience with it so far?
I still like mine. The build quality is very good. The bag is relatively heavy for its size though and I don’t find it very comfortable to wear it with the leather strap for longer periods when I’m carrying a lot of stuff for that reason. That is not what I bought the bag for so that’s fine for me but might be something to consider before you buy it
Yeah I'm most likely going to be using it as a large messenger. I did see that it weighed like 3.5 pounds which is kinda crazy for a non-leather bag. I'm thinking of wearing it cross strap and then putting the bag behind me to make It more comfortable but I'm going to see if I can handle one in person before buying
That is always the best idea. Hope it works out for you!
I’ve had one for about two years now and I would say that it’s the best bag I’ve owned. My only gripe is that I wish it had some foam protection for my laptop.
