best coat for heavy rain
Hey fellas,
What are some high quality parkas or rain jackets to wear in stormy/rainy weather?
I wear a northface jacket but my pants get drenched even with an umbrella. I've seen the Mac coat but it doesn't have a hoodie. So just wondering what's the best for full body rain protection

Idk if it’s the “best” but Barbour borders are great. You can buy a hood for them.
Everything's a trade off when it comes to rain coats. Stutterheim jackets are about as good as it gets for a waterproof rain jacket, but I'd imagine they'd get really hot from body heat
Best is a tradeoff. A plastic poncho that's adequately form-fitting and has a hood will keep you dry for very low cost, but whether that's best for you depends, doesn't it? :)
Honestly the best I've had is a good quality waterproof jacket and trousers. Is it fashionable? No.
It's kept me dry underneath when cycling to work though
Fair points. I just want something that will keep my top and most of my pants dry. Doesn't have to be cool or stylish, just functional
If I look around NYC for example, where people might walk at least some distance to work with nice clothes on, a common strategy is a greatcoat / polo coat / chesterfield / etc, with an umbrella. Even not waxed, it takes a lot to get through the cloth.
More practically, a long waxed coat with a hood can do the job
Oh, and just like, a big umbrella rather than a small one
Beyond that, you get into "it's raining sideways" territory and you end up going to tech fabrics and stuff for waterproofing
Including literally just plastic poncho type things.
Yeah they’re really good if you’ve got like a 5 minute walk
After that you may as well have not worn a coat at all with all the sweat
My combo has always been long raincoat+rain boots+umbrella
Basically leaves only the pants open and if you want to do Wellington boots then it’s basically just the knees, if that
ive had some shell jackets from north face and lululemon that served well in the philippines during monsoon season
norwegian rain
Rains and Uniqlo Blocktech Coats are good budget-options; even though Uniqlo Blocktech 'technology' is only water-resistant I quite like wearing it when its light rain / or just a persistent drizzle. It has a detachable hood, which makes it quite nice looking. Also golf umbrellas are much better at withstanding windy / stormy weather, as they have vents at the top that let the air flow through.
