Spier and Mackay if you're confident in sizing to order online
rej
rej10mo ago
so we're clear, a wedding, or your wedding?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Not my wedding it’s my sisters wedding But I also need to get her fiancé a tux rental If anyone knows a good place for that I can try some on in stores like macys to get an idea I guess? I want something versitile, I’m kind of a one suit kind of guy 😂
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
if there's a suitsupply near you you could try that
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Also have a baptism coming up And another wedding next summer I’d rather not go there but yes The prices seem quite higher than I’d like
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
if suitsupply is too pricey for you then maybe check around at thrift stores or eBay, plenty of good deals to be had, you just need to know how to navigate online suit shopping with measurements etc or Spier I wouldn't recommend buying a suit from Macy's
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Nordstroms? Why not How much is a suit supply suit
davis
davis10mo ago
If u know sizing but off eBay U can find suitsupply for cheap
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’d rather buy from an actual shop Can I order from suit supply Online
davis
davis10mo ago
Think so
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Maybe that’s the option then? I do know my size I expect to get it tailored too
davis
davis10mo ago
Spier is cheaper tho And similar quality
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh ok Spier is an actual store? I don’t want to order like eBay stuff
davis
davis10mo ago
U can order online
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ah ok What about a tux rental? I’m going to men’s warehouse, is that any good?
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
no
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh What’s good then Jos a bank?
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
brother scroll up in the chat Spier and Suitsupply
Bread
Bread10mo ago
For a tux rental
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
don't rent a tux is it a black tie event?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No It’s for the groom
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
then you'll look silly in a tux
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Not for me
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
groom shouldn't rent a tux either, rentals can't be tailored the way bought tuxes/suits can. plus they end up being ~half the price of a bought one after all the random fees
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Welp Idk lol What prices are we talking from suit supply
davis
davis10mo ago
Tell to groom to buy a tux, it’s his wedding
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok How much would it be For a decent suit
davis
davis10mo ago
From Spier like 400
Bread
Bread10mo ago
That’s a bit much
davis
davis10mo ago
*500
Bread
Bread10mo ago
harold
davis
davis10mo ago
Suitsupply is more
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I’m seeing that What about budget suits
davis
davis10mo ago
eBay
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Used stuff?
davis
davis10mo ago
Yeah, I just got a used Armani suit for 150 shipped Perfect condition
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Really wow
Affluence
Affluence10mo ago
I'd take a step back and just mention to the groom that anything under $400 new would be unrealistic for quality. If that is an absolute no-go, buying used on Ebay will be the best budget option, but also involves a lot of searching and a decent understanding of sizing/measurements/brands. Going to large thrift stores will be the best balance as he can try them on in person, but he also may need to go with a suit instead of a tux (not many tuxes at thrift stores). Regardless of where the tux/suit is bought, expect to need to tailor it as well, which is an additional cost.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
He wants to rent it 🤷‍♂️ I’m more worried about my own suit
Benji
Benji10mo ago
j crew has their classic fit suits on heavy sale rn (kenmar cut) i'd imagine spier is better however though i don't have experience with either https://www.jcrew.com/sale/men?sub-categories=mens-sale-suits-and-tuxedos crosby cut too
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh wow Ima go shopping and just get my size And then look online Seems the best option I think
Benji
Benji10mo ago
if you can get a matching jacket and pants in a size that works for you then that's the cheapest non ebay option out there that i would consider a wedding quality suit
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’ll check it it’s online?
Benji
Benji10mo ago
yah look at the link i sent you
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok great
Benji
Benji10mo ago
another option is mantoni suits (i have one and it's ok). it's a half canvassed suit you can find online or potentially at a small menswear store near you
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’ll go find my size And look online Is this a good idea Just go to a cheap store to try on sizes
gimp
gimp10mo ago
For tux rentals, get one in person unless you are very confident in sizing. There's usually an independent store or two you can visit. Do not get one from men's wearhouse. I disagree. If you wear a tux once, rent it. As long as you have a simple enough body shape they can be altered adequately. It should cost ~$200 with all the random fees and there is no tux I can recommend to buy at $400. If you wear a tux three times, definitely buy it. Regarding buying a suit: if you are reasonably slim, and there is a suitsupply store in your city, go visit them. If there is a brooks brothers store in your city, go visit them too. If you lack both, then go see if there are independent tailor stores, and go to see what's available at malls. Look for samuelsohn, ralph lauren (probably polo ralph lauren), maybe ted baker. Don't get anything that's got polyester and don't get anything from a "fancy brand" (anything in your price range will be garbage from the likes of armani and boss, for example) -- unless it's the best fit, in which case, fuck it, go for it. Definitely avoid really low end stuff like calvin klein.
davis
davis10mo ago
I was about to point out that edit lol
gimp
gimp10mo ago
yeah sorry fat fingered
davis
davis10mo ago
Don’t be, great advice
Bigelow
Bigelow10mo ago
I don't think you can do a tux rental for $200 these days not something I really keep track of
gimp
gimp10mo ago
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Looks like the prices near me are still about $200ish, maybe a little over -- san jose.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Why not But yeah I’m not slim at all Quite fat They gave suit supply and brooks bros I got sized tho So I can jsut buy online? Any ideas where to look online then The suit supply, spier Anything else? And what should I look for I don’t think spier has my size
gimp
gimp10mo ago
Mecause men's wearhouse has (almost) only trash in it. If you're fat, don't go to suitsupply, and don't bother with spier & mackay, their silhouette will not work for you.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’m a size 48 in suits
gimp
gimp10mo ago
And, let me be really clear here. Don't buy suits online unless you know exactly how to buy suits online
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Well I don’t haha
gimp
gimp10mo ago
You will have a very poor hit rate and will waste a lot of time and money No matter if you got sized at a store... don't buy sutis online. Go in person. Brooks brothers' sack cut is super old-school and should be a solid way to go. In stores, there will be brands/lines that work well with your body size. Tailor-specific stores, department stores.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Those are like $1000 I don’t have that kind of money
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
What is your budget? I feel like you keep shooting people down but haven’t provided what you actually can do
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean As little as possible $200 would be nice
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Good luck that’s going to be difficult
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I’m considering just getting a sports coat? And wearing some slacks and nice shoes and belt and tie Maybe black slacks with a navy or charcoal sports coat? More versitile too and less money
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Ask the bride and groom. If the groom sticks with a tux and you’re in the wedding party that feels like too much of a gap to me but ultimately it’s up to them
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I kind of need a suit I guess Yeah I’m the ring bearer I’m in the wedding I mean I could go to $400 I guess That’s like a hard max though I checked spies and suiit supplies website And I can’t find much in 48
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
How much time do you have?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Month
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
💀
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Is that not a lot
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You can’t get things cheap, good, and fast. You gotta pick 2 The best suggestions are in this thread but with only a month your best bet is to probably buy something cheap and fast that you can try on like from Macy’s and then get it tailored asap
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah but those places don’t sell my size it seems? The spies and suitsupply
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
your best bet is to probably buy something cheap and fast that you can try on like from Macy’s and then get it tailored asap
Folks here generally aren’t going to recommend it bc the fabrics and construction aren’t going to be very good. But you need a suit for a wedding that you’re going to be in in one month so you’ll have to get something that will be a sorta one time thing
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean I’m willing to look at something nice I just can’t find anything 💀 Macys I have an old suit It’s jsut a bit tight Not sure I can tailor it to make it bigger?
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Depends on where/how it’s tight
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Shoulders and chest
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
$400 doesn’t get you into nice suit territory to begin with. Spier’s red label is their budget line Pics
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Spiers was around 400 I thought
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
And Spier is an entry level brand
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean I can take some pics tommorow It’s jsut too tight Like it’s 2 sizes too small Maybe it’s a 44 I’ll have to check
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Oh I guess that’s $300USD
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’d buy it for that price
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
I’m not aware of anyone else in that price point that does good work tbh. Someone else might
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean that’s pretty good for the price I think Someone said spier isn’t good for a bigger guy? They do have a 48 which comes with 42 waist which is a little big for me But I could get the waist taken in What color would you recommend for most versatile
Benji
Benji10mo ago
How much do you have to take it in? Taking it in within 1.5" is a safe bet from what I've been told Navy, charcoal, gray Prob a mid gray
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean I was looking at the measures and maybe I can do a 46 jacket I’m a 40 in dress pants So a 42 pant should work if I can take it into 40.5 or 41 should be fine I’m worried about the seat being huge tho Idk how much a tailor can do I was thinking charcoal yeah

Bread
Bread10mo ago
These are the options in my size from spier
Benji
Benji10mo ago
Is the 40 fit slim, straight, or relaxed on you if that makes any sense? You may also be able to order different sized pants then the jacket. If that's not an option on the website, maybe you can contact them
Bread
Bread10mo ago
The 40 pant? You can’t with that red label deal @benjiara They say specifically no trouser swaps A 40 fit on me is pretty tight in the seat and thighs but it fits ok A 41 would prob be perfect ngl I’m going to have someone measure my shoulders and check that spier fit page tommorow Should be good though I think the measures are going to fit and the tailor can do what I need What’s a good tailor cost? $100?
Benji
Benji10mo ago
You should be able to take in a 42 to a 41 then (only do that if it actually doesn't end up fitting). It's best to get measured at a tailor but you can do it yourself too (just follow reputable online instructions) I took in the waste on chinos a month ago, and it was $25 It will also cost you $10-20 to get the pants hemmed (I wouldn't have spier hem them because then it's final sale)
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I can do it myself probably if it’s easy, I’ve sewn quite a few camping related items and I know my way around a sewing machine Done many roll hems lol Oh you mean measure myself, I thought you meant tailor it myself lol A hem I can do though, that’s very easy Darting and stuff, I know nothing about
Benji
Benji10mo ago
That's cool. I would do a hem only if you're very confident that you can do it perfectly as this is for a wedding
gimp
gimp10mo ago
Look fellas can we stop bringing up Spier&Mackay? The suits are not going to be the right silhouette for Bread and Bread needs to buy a suit in person, not online. Even if they sell size 48, their cuts are "slim" and "slimmer." Gotta know one's limits, that's all. Okay, if you are trying to spend as absolutely little money as possible, go drive down to your local department store(s) and try on suits until you find one or several that fit well. Buy the one that fits the best and is the most normal color/pattern (mid gray to charcoal, darkish blue to navy) and get it tailored, should be ~$100 or so (if it's more, it may be that the suit doesn't actually fit well.) Department stores should have an in-house tailor. Forget canvassing, forget wool vs polyester, if that is your budget just get whatever you can get. Just focus on good fit, and a color/pattern that isn't absurd.
Benji
Benji10mo ago
that's a very good point, sorry could be a good idea to check out a local small menswear store too if there's one near him (maybe less options tho, department store is prob a better bet sizing wise)?
gimp
gimp10mo ago
Either/or/both. With one month left, you gotta get it done asap.
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
I tried to say this earlier ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
gimp
gimp10mo ago
Well, let's hope that's what OP does!
Benji
Benji10mo ago
also, don't be pressured by pushy sales associates at the stores (I have anecdotally always had good experiences with sales at macy's however). get something that you actually feel isn't too small or too large (would be great to post a pic and ask what people here think). it's easier to tailor something down a size than to tailor something too small to be larger
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I measured my self to see if Spier would work Seems even with a 48 chest the waist is only like a 42.. My abdomen section is pretty much 48 as well. I’m a rectangle Waist for pants goes down to like 42 though I’m going to go try on my old macys suit Maybe I can jsut get that tailored

Bread10mo ago
Tried on the cheap suit I have Says it’s a 44R Feels a little tight in the abs, maybe ok in shoulder @gimp @benjiara
Benji
Benji10mo ago
The others will know better than me tbh Also tuck in your shirt I think
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Well I’m not dressed lol That’s just the jacket I’m wearing khaki shorts
Benji
Benji10mo ago
Yah but to assess the fit
gimp
gimp10mo ago
I mean look, if your goal is to look the bare minimum presentable by checking the checkbox of "is wearing a suit" and spend as little money as possible, then yeah go bring it to a tailor and ask them if they can work some magic. Personally I would recommend something that fits better (and we can go into details, but I'm not doing it now because I don't want to discourage you). But if money is tight, do the best you can with what you have.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Details are fine, I’d like to know anyway If the spier and Mackey would fit Maybe it’s a good option for $300 I could measure this suit maybe? @gimp Any advice on this lol
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
On what?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
How the fit is in the pics and what I can do? Either a place to get a new suit or What to do with this one
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah but they probably can’t work magic for cheap on that suit And it’s not worth paying a lot for tbh
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
See this message then https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1154828470338195476/1155201493155205161 Go to a department store. Try stuff on. Then get it tailored
Bread
Bread10mo ago
But people said dept store suits are crap
gimp
gimp10mo ago
I can't repeat myself any more times than I already did. Get whatever fits the best in your budget or get your suit tailored to fit as good as it's ever going to. I have bought like 20 sport coats online and even having an excellent reference for measurements, a quarter of them were misses. You have a month, you are gonna have a very hard time fitting everything into your schedule if you buy online. S&M does have a solid return policy but you'd have to order today, bring it immediately to a tailor, and accept at least a 50% chance it has to be returned.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No one makes suits my size I have basically zero drop from chest to waist size This is very hard
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You are on a small budget and a short timeline. Now is not the time to research and buy something that’s high quality. You need a suit for this wedding asap
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah but I don’t want to spend on something that’s junk I’m sure there’s an option There’s still a month, seems like plenty of time
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
That is not plenty of time. That is zero time
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Well There has to be some sort of option The Spier and Mackey suits seem nice but I’m not sure If they would fit My chest measure is 46 and waist is 45 And all these suits I find have a substantial chest to waist drop
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Here are your options: - spend more money - invent a Time Machine - go to whatever stores are near you and try stuff on and then get it tailored
Bread
Bread10mo ago
There’s plenty of stores nearby Brooks bros, suit supply, jcrew
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
What’s your budget?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
$400’
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
That’s not enough money
Bread
Bread10mo ago
There’s many suits sold for that much How is it not Even suit supply and spier and Mackey have suits for that Spier has a $300’suit
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
I literally just sorted suit supply’s website by price from low to high and this was the cheapest that’s actually a suit https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/light-grey-perennial-havana-suit/C7040-S.html

Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok so no to that then
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Idk what your question is even. If those are the stores near you. Then go visit them and try on the suits and see if they fit. You will need time for them to get tailored as well How long that takes will depend on the shop or tailor
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I’m trying to see if there’s a recommended store or something
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Literally any store near you that sells suits
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Macy’s sells suits For like $100
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Then go buy one of those. Bc you need a suit yesterday
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean if I can’t find anything higher quality I do have a suit it’s jsut a bit tight Mostly in the waist
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
I give up
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
As mentioned like 5 other times you can take that jacket to a tailor and see if they can work magic to get it to fit. Or go to literally any store near you that sells suits and buy one that fits. $400 is not enough money to find a “high quality” suit in less than a month. So stop bike shedding and buy a suit for your brother’s wedding
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I haven’t found a single suit that matches my dimensions Not even sure what I’m looking for

I agree that with $2-400 and 1 month, you have to make compromises. You're looking at getting a cheap suit and having it tailored a bit
Bread

Can we talk about sizing So I can find something online to go look at in store maybe

Are they skinny fit or something?
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
YES
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh Why didn’t you say that
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
we did
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
MULTIPLE PEOPLE DID
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
several times
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
YOU DID
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I can’t find a single suit sized differently though
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You asked about the huge drop in measurements from chest to waist
Bread
Bread10mo ago
With no drop from chest to waist Or very little
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
because every suit has a drop
Just A Manatee
Just A Manatee10mo ago
Spier’s known for having a slimmer, weird fit lol
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
thats part of suit design
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Then how would I ever fit in a suit?
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
I think that's why squilly was posting BB Madison fit.
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
There will almost always be drop. That is why you need to GO TO A ATORE AND TRY THEM ON
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
your waist is smaller than your chest!!!!!
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’m really confused No it’s not They are both the same size
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
46 chest 45 waist
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah only 1 inch
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
you have to size up! to a 48
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I see So what about people with actual bellies What do they buy
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Literally all of this would be solved by going to a store and putting the fucking clothes on your body
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
Bread, you need to try on in person. That's another reason why S&M is a bad idea
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
i buy a 48
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah but you don’t have a huge belly I’m assuming
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
Dude do you care at all about actually getting help or are you just here to vent. Because a lot of people are trying to help you (and have been) and you pointedly ignore what they say and it's a huge waste of both their time and yours
Just A Manatee
Just A Manatee10mo ago
You have to try it on man
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I did go to men’s warehouse
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
Go to Macy's. Ask a salesman for help. Try it on
Bread
Bread10mo ago
They sized me in some 48S But I didn’t like it
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
That sounds about right
Just A Manatee
Just A Manatee10mo ago
What did you not like about it
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
why didnt you like it
Bread
Bread10mo ago
It just seemed baggy I forgot to take pics tbh
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Post a pic here and we can help
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No description
Bread
Bread10mo ago
This is a 44R Too small
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
that is too tight
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah that’s a 44 Where is it too tight? Shoulders? Chest? Belly
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
chest and stomach
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Shoulders are 19 on that suit Seems ok to me
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
shoulders do not matter you can not change them
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I thought that was the thing that did matter Yeah Shoulders and length can’t be fixed at all
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
no, so its pointless to worry they will fit how they fit unless you buy bespoke, which you arent
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh I mean, this suit can’t be fixed probably Right
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
how did the 48s seem baggy where did it seem baggy was fabric pooling anywhere, or was it just not sit tight against the skin
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I think the shoulders, like if moved my arm up, the whole shoulder would poof up
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
yeah, at your price range they have to accommodate a range of shapes. So they basically have no choice but to make it too big.
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Stop. There’s no point w/o a picture
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Like I was wearing shoulder pads
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
if you go smaller, there probably isn't going to be enough material for a tailor to let it out in the belly.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I’m not going smaller lol I’d prob get a 48S if I can find one
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
out of curiosity, im guessing you have not worn tailoring much
Bread
Bread10mo ago
My arms are also kind of short at 24 inches
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
because the shoulder padding is just somethign you have to adjust to
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No I’ve never gotten anything tailored besides a hem
jfarrell468
jfarrell46810mo ago
yeah, shoulder pads are probably how they make the baggy fit less obvious.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Also if I said something felt uncomfortable, the sales person at MWH would just say that’s part of wearing a suit it’s not supposed to be comfortable
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
This is incorrect. Cheaper suits just generally are going to have more shoulder padding than the niche/enthusiast Italian/ivy type tailoring
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah that’s what I think I’ve seen
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
This is wrong
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I know it is
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Suits can be comfortable
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
cheap shoulder pads also just arent well done, theyre usually a block of foam instead of stacked fabric
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Which ever one you end up with from a dept store isn’t going the most comfy tho
Bread
Bread10mo ago
The s&m might actually work if I get a 48 They say the “waist” is where you wear your pants
Just A Manatee
Just A Manatee10mo ago
No please don’t
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
which is why i think if you want something thats not shit you should look into a used, good suit
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Fucking stop with Spier
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
it will last and look better
Bread
Bread10mo ago
It would be so much a better deal at $300 than a dept store suit though No?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
it doesnt matter if you buy a suit that fits like shit!
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
The red label doesn’t allow trouser subs and you’re not a drop 6 or whatever it is they do
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I am From a 48, a 42 would fit me I mean would need to be brought in a bit?
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Fuck it. Call it class dues I guess
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Fine I won’t get that But how is that different than buying something on eBay
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
how do you mean
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Buying online at s&m Vs buying eBay Same issues no?
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
No bc not all suits fit like spiers
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Wait are you reading spier’s size chart as like how all suits are shaped and fit?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Bro idk anything about suits
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
No shit
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I would assume they are all similar
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Yes or no They’re not at all
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Like a 48 is prob similar in other brands
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
good god not in the slightest
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Well that explains things
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
we told you S&m fits slim as shit
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Gotcha So if I lose 50 lbs I can get one of those lol
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
i recced BB madison fit because theyre pretty generous cut
Bread
Bread10mo ago
That’s brooks brothers?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yes
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I have a store near me I can go try on and maybe order on eBay one in the right size
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
used ones, like i posted, are cheap and plentiful
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Would it be the same fit
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You almost certainly can’t afford bb
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
essentially yeah new BB is not in your range at all
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No they are thousands
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
but used definetly is the ones i posted were all sub-200 ^
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Hope it’s doable in < 1 month @bread71 I assume you don’t have a tailor?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
most dry cleaners do alterations
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah I mean I’ve done that
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
True
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
and if your buying the right size youd mostly be looking at sleeves, inseam, and maybe pants waist adjustment
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Pants and sleeves would be the main concerns which a dry cleaner should be able to do true
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
which is pretty easy
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Worried about the lenght
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
exactly
Bread
Bread10mo ago
On those bb suits
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
i posted regular length
Bread
Bread10mo ago
The suit pictured is 30 inch and I think it’s slightly too long
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
The jacket you posted is also way too short
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Too short?? How so
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
It should totally cover your ass
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
hem should hit knuckles about
Bread
Bread10mo ago
So its not about the arm length? Or is it about butt coverage
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
It depends
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
body length
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I have a long torso and short arms and legs So the arm thing won’t work I think
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yeah i saw it did hit your knuckles
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
go by ass coverage
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok will do
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You should try them on and get someone to take pics of you standing neutrally and then we’ll actually be able to help you
Bread
Bread10mo ago
That’s a R lenght suit tho 30 inches long
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
pretty standard
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah So I need a Long?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
do you know how a long fits?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
See the MWH people had me in a short, I think that’s why it looked weird now that I think about it It was at my waist line Like a tshirt
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
the long was?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Short
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
then you need longer
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’ve never tried a long no Yeah
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
then go back out tomorrow and try on 46r/l and 48r/l take pictures
Bread
Bread10mo ago
At BB?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yes and all the other shops
Bread
Bread10mo ago
It’s not much a help if I’m not buying that exact suit I think Well I can go to the outlets, they have a BB, Jcrew Let me see what else
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
jcrew will not fit they do not fit me they will not fit you
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Damn Does Uniqlo fit you As an aside I wanted to get some shirts and stuff there
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
not really but i havent bought anything from uniqlo in years ts will fit fine theyre t shirts just buy according to your chest measurments
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Hm Ok I mean I’m not sure what shops sell suits lol
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
which will be like a 44-46 actual diameter
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Where else is good to look that isn’t a dept store Like macys/ nordstroms My actual chest is 46 yeah Even if I was skinnier it would prob be at least 44 It’s all bone lol
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
I would go to bb, size your options, and then look for second hand offerings on ebay and such
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I mean I’m in central jersey if that helps. I’d rather avoid going to NYC to get anything though lol There’s a suit supply in short hills though
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
how far from philly?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
That mall has a lot of nice stuff Further than nyc lol
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Just do the bb Madison suit and then eBay it You don’t have time to scour the world for suits
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
Don't do suitsupply
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You need to figure out your size and then buy that size/measurements in eBay asap and then get it to a tailor to hem sleeves and stuff Also susu is going to be slim like Spier and too expensive and more difficult to find on eBay If you wanna become a suit nerd next month then have at it
Benji
Benji10mo ago
@bread71 you have a number of options given your location, you can go on Google maps and search for menswear stores in your area.
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
Just do the brooks brothers plan That’s right move and you should do it asap Don’t waste time
Benji
Benji10mo ago
Yah brooks brother's makes quality full fitting suits
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’ll go to BB tommorow How safe is eBay stuff? Are there any good stores on there to look for Or any other online consignment shops I’m sure there’s a suit consignment shop in person maybe too
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
eBay is very safe, your best pricing will be on eBay
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Literally search “brooks brothers Madison suit 48r”
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
Any in person store will have higher prices due to curation and overhead
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
Just look at the seller profile before you buy anything, you will be fine as long as you read the description
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
and read the description and make sure there isnt any obvious damage
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Can I go to BB and waste their time though?
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
Once you know your size in that specific brand and cut you are fine to just buy online
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yes
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Like to try on suits I won’t buy
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
Yes
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
to get your size they wont shoot you
Bread
Bread10mo ago
If they get paid commission that’s shitt though no?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
not really
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Maybe I can tip them
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
Yes the only question is will it be a waste of your time if you come back here and ask us to help you with sizing afterwards
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
It’s a massive chain. Nbd
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ah Ok idk lol
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
You can't tip salespeople like that 🤦‍♂️
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
There’s not going to be a line out the door at the brooks brothers I’m sure they’ll do fine
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
its also a BB outlet if there is ANYBODY in that store they are returning an online order
gimp
gimp10mo ago
Are they still open? If so go today. If not go tomorrow morning. Get this shit done asap.
Bread
Bread10mo ago
It’s actually quite popular I see people there all the time
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan10mo ago
Trust, it’s fine Go there tomorrow and look on eBay after
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Why do you keep trying to get out of advice people are giving you?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
What do you mean I’m going to go to Bb
kyoko
kyoko10mo ago
Ok then class dismissed
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Is that the only one I should try on The Madison
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yes
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Why is that
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
regent will be too small in the arms
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Just curious Ok
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
im using my experience
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Gotcha
Benji
Benji10mo ago
@bread71 do you have a silk tie btw?
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No Oh do these BB eBay suits come with pants
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You can buy a tie the day of
Benji
Benji10mo ago
You could get one there. A bit pricey, but high quality ties
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yes but double check
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I don’t have a shirt either
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
size a shirt at bb too and then ebay that also youre probably around a 17-18 neck and 34-35
Bread
Bread10mo ago
I’m a 18 yeah
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
then do the same and get a bb one on ebay regular or traditional fit
Bread
Bread10mo ago
No description
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
which have a red or blue neck tag
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah this is what they had me try at mwh It was very baggy in the body tho So idk
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
did it fit in the neck? thats all that matters
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah fit well
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Doesn’t matter
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Why not? Does it get tailored?
jawntanamo_bae
jawntanamo_bae10mo ago
Yes
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
You’ll be wearing a jacket
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh so I have to get it tailored too
jawntanamo_bae
jawntanamo_bae10mo ago
That too
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah true
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
probably not
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
And having space in shirts is nice
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Ok cool I’ll jsut size at BB
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago

awburkey10mo ago
How my shirts fit. It’s great
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh also I plan to wear brown shoes Wingtips
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
thats fine
Bread
Bread10mo ago
So what color suit would work And what belt would you recommend I don’t have a brown belt
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
how light is the brown
awburkey
awburkey10mo ago
Pic of shoes
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Looks nice, if I fit that on me tho I’d look like I was wearing my dads clothes I think your body works better
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
dont think like that it just destructive
Bread
Bread10mo ago

Bread
Bread10mo ago
These are the shoes
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
youre not going to have much choice other than what shade of grey youd like ideally a light grey but youll want a darker grey for utility
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
would be fine
Bread
Bread10mo ago
A dark grey is what I was aiming for Why are they so cheap on eBay It’s a bit alarming
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
availabilty
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Like how can I confirm someone wasn’t buried in this
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
same reason burberry is cheap
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Well not buried but dead So@why would anyone buy a new one
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
most dont but enough do most people dont buy suits anymore at all which is why companies like BB are going under
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Most don’t buy new?
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
nope
jawntanamo_bae
jawntanamo_bae10mo ago
Suits in general have shit resale value because people don’t buy suits a lot anymore
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh yeah I mean A suit for me is for weddings and funerals I want to look nice but True I feel like most people buy one suit and that’s it That’s their wedding and funeral suit and they are done Unless you’re a corporate type or a car salesman I wear sweatpants to work half the time Anyway any recs for a belt, tie? I can get those online too I guess And shirt and suit I’ll get Bb
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
tie: bb on ebay just make it easy
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Oh so everything BB
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
itll be coherent
Bread
Bread10mo ago
Yeah
SquillyFerrell
SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yeah belt just go to a dept store and match the shoes a belt is a belt
Bread

SquillyFerrell10mo ago
yeah but only minor alterations they were fundamentally the same size different arm lengths, waist, inseam maybe they had it brought in or let out but alterations like that would take maybe 3-4 days up to a week assume a week shipping, you have two weeks on either end most alterations places can be "encouraged" to fast track a job with a premium ive paid double to get stuff done in a day
