Server crashing when players join
My server is crashing when a player joins. I'm currently testing to see if it's just one player or any players. No crash report generated. I'm gonna post the logs right before and right after, as the server restarts immediately.

Please check your server log for errors from your plugins.
If you need further help understanding the errors, please send us the whole log file.
Where can I find the server log?
Logs are stored in
<server_directory>/logs/
. Search for a file explorer in your server's management interface and navigate to that directory. Once you've opened that up, search for the latest.log
file. Some providers have a separate page for logs and may hide the "logs" folder.
On Aternos:
• Go to https://aternos.org/log/.
On Minehut and server.pro:
• Go to the "files" tab in the left menu.
• Navigate to the root directory of your server.
• From there navigate to /logs/latest.log
.
What should I do with the log?
• First of all, read it! I mean, that's what you do all the time when you run a server, isn't it? Try to locate any errors that have anything to do with the issue you are facing.
• If you got the latest.log
file or created a .txt
file with the necessary errors you can upload these directly to the channel, but we prefer if you upload them to https://mclo.gs/.
• If you have trouble downloading the log file, copy/paste the text to a paste service (like mclogs). Copy the link that it gives you and send it to us. (Don't worry, McLogs hides your users' IPs.)Admincraft Canned Responses
@Goose
The logs don't really say anything (at least nothing stands out to me), and there's no crash report. I did see on the console "server in a crashed state" and i'll try to grab it if it comes up again
server was able to stay up for about 20 minutes
nice ip

My server is using too much memory
My panel says my memory usage is high all the time.
Your server runs in the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which has significant overhead & tries to effectively use ALL of the memory assigned to it.
Memory usage from "htop", Task Manager, or your server panel is the total consumption of the JVM, not just your server.
My server is lagging & I think it's memory related.
It's much more likely that you are bottlenecked by your CPU, disk, or some inefficient mod/plugin.
Rule of thumb, servers should have anywhere from 4GB to 12GB of memory, with 8GB being the 'sweet spot'.
If you're heavily modded, add 4GB to that.
Too much memory can be a bad thing. Don't exceed these caps unless you really know why you're doing it.
Troubleshoot your server the right way: use Spark & send us a report.
My server is randomly terminated unexpectedly.
Setting your server to use 8GB does not mean that Java won't exceed this amount.
As a rule of thumb, allow your system/container about 1-2GB (possibly more) overhead outside of the server.
If you're on Linux & can SSH into the system, check your kernel logs. They will report any incidents of OOM.
I want to use swap to allocate more memory.
Don't. Swap is not free memory and using it can negatively impact performance.

@Goose what's your Java startup flags?
Btw it seems some resource packs aren't working
And you need to accept plan eula to start it
Figured it out, host did am update and it messed with the startup flags and way over extended the ram. Also ty for the other advice
Well i would in that situation look for new host
He's on enviro iirc
Which is reputable
A flag issue is not something that bad, everyone can make a small mistake
but that shouldn't ever happen
To be entirely fair, it very well could have been me and I forgot.
So let's say that was server with 200 players(decent server) with active players who are buying, and host messes up startup flags bro is literally losing money.
so these mistakes are not acceptable
but as the guy said, could have been his fault
Mistakes can be made from anyone at any time.
A mistake that can be fixed in 5 seconds isn't the end of the world. 👀
Well, yes mistakes can happen, but host must be more professional, they should test update on test server first and see if servers are working properly(startup flags and other things).
Well at least I hope that they learned from their mistake and that they will in future do something more to make sure that things like that never ever happen again.
Are there activity logs?
host should do some warning if ram is more than you have or doesn't allow you to change ram, just variable like ram. If they don't want to get rid of flags then they should do some basic flags and + if owner of server wants to add extra flags
I appreciate the help but the issue has been resolved and I'm perfectly happy with the host. Yes, the startup flags are fully editable, hence why it's very possible I screwed it up and didn't notice. I only kept this thread open for the links yall provided earlier. Thank you for your help.
