Export layer or group directly to models

When exporting out items that you plan to re-use (such as models/objects/collections of brush strokes) would be helpful for them to be moved to the models library (or one designed for that purpose). This would facilitate access, particularly on the quest where exported models have to be transferred in order to be usable

I think there's already an item for "save selected" which would save just the currently selected strokes for later merging in. The missing part of the jigsaw is how this fits into the UI. Saved strokes don't really belong on the sketchbook panel but they don't quite belong in the Media Library either. I'm still puzzling over the best way to handle this.

They probably need their own container/page. Probably somewhere on the panel that has the saved sketches, images, models and other items we import in. Perhaps should be a distinction between the scenes library (which overwrites a sketch and things which are imported for use in an active sketch. Considering that things like saved shapes (polyhydra objects) have 'model-like' characteristics in that sense. In UI terms might be more useful to think in terms of an import/export panel for 'components'. Full scenes (saved sketches) might fit better with gallery functions. Maybe a good idea to think about what we'll ultimately end up needing

That's the Media Library panel I was referring to. I mean really - the way most applications handle this is that a file browser is a file browser. You choose whether you are "opening" or "importing" and then you browse to a folder. All file browsers are the same - the only differences being the default starting folder, and which filetypes are filtered out. Our Media Library panels contain a lot of code specific to each media type. I tried adding audio as a new tab the other day and there was a lot of code to change that felt pretty orthogonal to the problem at hand. I guess the other problem is that we run on many different platforms, and there's no easy to use native VR file picker that's cross-platform.

I was thinking about this feature more (saved strokes) and realized this is something I would be likely to use extensively. I can easily see building large object libraries for different purposes. Figures, anatomy, plants, vehicles and so forth, probably several per sketch. I think, in that sense I would want it's own full panel. Four or five categories, placeholder named like a,b,c,etc.. until keyboard One set could be allocated for an eventual shared library-- like poly for scene objects

OK. Interesting. Turns out it's easier to make it it's own panel so I've started down that route. Initially it will be very similar to the current Sketchbook panel.

Excellent. I see a lot of potentials to remix elements this way. Glad it is an easier thing to set up.
