Portforwarding issues
Hello, I'm trying to portforward my minecraft 1.20.1 server.
The server is located on a secondary Windows 10 PC connected directly to the router. I've portforwarded port 25565 on my ASUS RT-AC86U router, I have, for the time being, turned off the firewalls on this Windows 10 PC. I have added rules in the advanced firewall settings to allow incoming and outgoing connections related to port 25565, but still nothing works. I can connect through my private IP, but not with my public IP. I got
I've talked with my ISP and according to them I should now have a public IP. It all worked a few months ago, but it seems to have completely stopped working after they mysteriously withdrew my public IP. I ran
Connection refused
yesterday when trying to connect and No route to host
today.I've talked with my ISP and according to them I should now have a public IP. It all worked a few months ago, but it seems to have completely stopped working after they mysteriously withdrew my public IP. I ran
tracert <public ip>
in my W10 terminal, it only shows one hop, so if I'm not mistaken, that means it's not carrier grade NAT. I've restarted the router several times, obviously checking so that I'm connecting to the correct public IP, but no luck.9 Replies

We may have bad news for you :C
Open your router's configuration interface. Somewhere you'll see something like 'external' or 'public' IP.
If your external IP is in one of the following ranges, you're basically screwed as long as portforwards go:
- 10.0.0.0/8
- 172.16.0.0/20
- 192.168.0.0/16
- 100.64.0.0/10
- any IPv6 address/range - This shouldn't be a problem, but Minecraft's IPv6 support is still rather quirky. You're at your own but we're happy if you share your experience.
You should ask your ISP for a public and IPv4 address (but this may cost you money).
NB: your internal IP should and most probably will be in one of the first three ranges, don't mix them up

Check with this
Btw if your wan is the same as your public IP you shouldn't have CGnat
You normally shouldn't be able to connect to your public IP from internal network
That's called hairpin NAT
I have a 155.x.x.x address
Interesting. I tried using canyouseeme.org to see if port 25565 was open, it wasnt, but I'll still check if others can join, doesnt feel too likely though.
uhh... I was just able to connect to the server through my public IP so maybe it does work now?
Are you checking this through your router or through something like ip chicken
Router but I also checked on whatsmyip. Everything seems to be solved now though
