looks on the long side of good at first glance, but it'd be helpful to show your shoes too and have your arms resting naturally by your sides (not holding your phone - use self timer)
The body and jacket are both a little long, but easily tailorable. Have you already bought the jacket?
Bought but it is still in its return window and it hasn’t been altered
something's a little wonky with the shoulder fit to my eye
can you repeat these pics with the top button buttoned?
Gotcha. It generally looks very nice on you. A tailor could easily pull the sleeve up (most important), and also maybe shorten the body by half an inch.
I agree with GSH that a pic of the jacket buttoned would be helpful. I’m not seeing the same issue with the shoulder that they are, but a buttoned pic would bring shoulder or chest issues into sharper relief.
Thanks all lemme get a pic buttoned
Here we are buttoned
I think the jacket length is great.
I think what might be throwing me off is that your shoulders look a bit uneven compared to each other? Like your left side is slouching a bit?
notice how the seam for the left arm hole has more of a curve to it while the right arm hole seam is lying striaght
Honestly, the length of the jacket is probably ok. Right on the borderline of where I’d want it tailored, so that’s a personal taste issue.
The sleeve definitely needs to come up before the jacket is wearable.
Shoulder looks ok to me. It’s got some structure for sure, but you’re avoiding the dreaded shoulder divot (pictured).
I'm not sure if that's your stance in the pic or just how your shoulders are naturally. Probably not worth fretting over because I think the jacket fits you quite nicely overall
Ah yes I have some profound skilliosis.
Skulliosis*
Is that something my tailor could work around?
Gotcha. Oh, and braindrops is definitely right that the sleeve length will need to be shortened
A tailor might be able to make the jacket sit a little more naturally, but honestly it’s something 95% of people will never notice. I wouldn’t worry about it. Bodies do be like that sometimes.
Awesome. Thanks for the tips I’ll take this and the pants to my tailor later this week thanks all 🙂
Tailors can sometimes make corrections for imbalances like adjusting padding levels, it's worth asking about, but if it's not doable or is prohibitively expensive I wouldn't bother with it. The jacket will look just great after the sleeves are shortened to the right length.
I'm sure @gimp can give a better answer than me too whenever he comes online
I’m glad to hear it. With just a little work I think this will look aces on you. Would love to see an after pic
Thanks, once everything gets altered and my belt to match the boots come in I’ll post another pic, with and without my beaver hat 😉
It’s absolutely not viable if it doesn’t go with the beaver hat
It is a little long but workable imo. Def get the sleeves shortened tho
Thanks for the ping. I'm not an expert.
Length is fine in the body.
Sleeves need to be shortened. You know this.
GSH said top button but he meant the cardinal button. If it's a 3-roll-2 you button button number 2, middle one. It's a little hard to tell with the tag but this almost looks like you buttoned the top of 3? No, based on where the tag is, assuming you didn't move it, you buttoned the cardinal button... the fact that I was confused made me look again. If you in fact buttoned the proper one, then the button stance is too high for my preferences, by like an inch if not more.
Get photos with the cardinal button done. Front, back, both sides. Good lighting. Held by someone else, no mirror.
From what I can see which is not conclusive without better photos, your shoulders look totally adequate. For what it's worth, most men have unevenly sloped shoulders, by a small amount.
I’ll have my fiancé take some clearer photos of me when we are both home from work. For what it’s worth I did have the middle button buttoned
Yup makes sense. High button stance is a personal choice, but generally not my favorite.
@gimp do any of these help?
Actually kidna long yeah
But not bad!
It might look better once you shorten your sleeves
It does a load of difference visually when that happens
With spier, dince the front quarters are so curved, I find that if it’s too short, it accents the hips too much
I think between this and a 38S this would prob fit me better but I agree it seems a little long
Which makes sense since a shorter jacket will have a higher buttoning point to this, which will make the hips more fitted
38S is like 1.5 inches shorter
Yeah Im 5’8 and my first spier jacket was 38S
And I hated how short it was
So would you think I should just stick with the 38?
This is an older 38s (neo cut) and it felt like the buttoning point was low. It’s almost as if they took a 38 that had its buttons already, cut off some@length then added the pockets
And you can see that the front quarters open up quite a bit and emphasize my hips which I don’t like
The back definitely needs work.
Yes!
I don’t mind a longer jacket now but it helps that I have a wider fit and wider legs to off set it
I think that in that photo you showed, the buttoning point is great. But whether you want it there or an inch higher is definitely a matter of taste.
How much would a tailor be able to take up, if at all?
So back to OP, the first thing I'd do for the back is give the back hem and the sleeves a good pull down. Ask your photographer to help you. Sometimes something looks terrible and then a yank just fixes it, turns out it was just bunched up for whatever reason, often when these things are shipped they come kinda wrinkled and want either time on the hanger or a press or both.
If the back stays looking like it is, I'd ask a professional.
That big folding action happening around where the upper back meets arms is concerning.
I guess what I mean that it’s low in regard to the jacket itself. In other words, I wanted more length to the existing jacket haha
Doesn’t help that the vents are still closed and such
What sizing issue would be the cause of that? Is this something a skilled tailor could fix or should I try another size?
Perhaps I’ll just take it to my tailor tomorrow and have him look at it
I think you have the right size. It just needs a bit of tailoring
I believe I’ve found a good guy in Chicago, is there a thread for tailor recs out there?
I defer to gimp and Ethan tho
I can give you answers for, like, five issues tops. For everything else all I can do is point out something I don't like and tell you to see a professional. :P
Whether it is fixable or not is not something that I know. Beyond which, there's often the question of: okay this is fixable, but who has the skills to fix it, where do I find them, and what do they charge? It's why I really really don't like giving specific advice on tailoring, being obviously not a tailor.
I think pulling the jacket taut and fixing the sleeves will do wonders.
Op, you don’t need to go crazy in tailoring yet!
It’s hard to not! This is my first venture outside of a navy blazer or charcoal suit so I’m getting really in to it
