Switching data from an older AMD system to a Intel system
I was plannning on giving my mom my old pc since her pc is a peice of crap, her PC is an AMD A10-7800 and the system I will be giving her is a Intel i7-8700. I was hoping I could just throw in her 1tb HDD that has all her stuff on it into the Intel system. Will this work? I know its probably not optimal but will there be any big roadblocks doing this?

It would probably work, but a clean install is the much more recommended option
There are a lot of things that could go wrong if you don't clean install
Yeah she just has such a specfici setup on her computer so i dont want to mess with it all but if i do do a clean install it may be better to also just get her a ssd
but we also need to buy windows cuz she doesnt own it as her pc is a prebuilt
n stuff
but alrighty noted
hmmMMmmMmMmMmMmmm
If she has Windows on it already, a clean install would recognize the computer as already being registered and probably be fine
Can you define clean install jut so i have clarification
Formatting the storage device and installing Windows fresh
Basically deleting everything off of it and reinstalling Windows
Gotcha
I guess I could plan on getting the stuff off the drive she needs, putting the drive in the new pc, formatting it once its up and working, then transferring hjer data back on
Silly question, since her only drive and boot drive is the 1tb HDD, is there a way i can take that windows install on it and transfer it to a new ssd? im guessing not, just trying to avoid buying windows cuz its so expensive
Like I said, you don't have to buy Windows for the same computer because once you install Windows on it it will recognize it and automatically register it
You could clone the drive and all that, but I highly recommend you don't and just clean install
It's much easier and has less room for issues
So can I then get data off HDD she needs, put a new ssd in the new pc, with no other drive, boot it up and it will have windows? and then i can transfer all her stuff to it
If you get a new drive, you will have to install Windows on it
But then you can put all of the data onto it that she wants
Hm alright
Ik i asked this before but I want to clarify
I can buy windows and get the drive onto a usb, and boot that and put it on a new ssd. Then say I have a complete other system I need windows on, can i download that same windows install that i bought to give a new pc windows
This is how I recommend you do it:
- Buy a new SSD, or just use the old drive
- Backup all data to a flash drive or external storage device
- Make a Windows installation USB (for free, she already has activated Windows on this machine)
- Do a fresh install of Windows on the storage device
- Copy the backed up data to the new drive
You can use any Windows USB to install Windows on a computer, yes
As long as it has been activated before it should work fine
If not, then you need a product key
Windows can automatically activate over the internet for you
You have a video you can link me on how to make the windows installation usb?
or i guess i can look when up actually-
lol

sorry i require alot of clarification for this stuff </3
i can build a pc but cant wrap my head arounmd this stuf
lol
also im really happy that i completely built my pc on my own the other day
v proud of myself haha
All good 😄
Hopefully it works out for the system
and the cable management totally wasnt cursed!
tgottallyyyyy
TOTALLLYYYYY
That's how my old system was, yeah
lol
If it can't be seen, I don't mind
Especially since it often doesn't affect airflow
Listen the corsair rgb hub, other hub, and fan hub all needing satap power sucked
it was annoying bc all together there was 5 sata connections including my ssds and i had to plug in a whole other sata cable to my psu to plug in one more thing
That is one reason I'm thinking of not bothering with RGB, all the extra cables and software needed seems unnecessary
I thought i would like the 4000d airflow but its kinda cramped
There are much larger cases that are really nice to work in, but obviously they cost more and are much larger
So less room on your desk or whatever
Yeah
i may just take out the rgb hub and other little corsair thing it connects to and plug in the fans to the fan hub only
then ill have much better room and can take out the hard drive cage my ssds are in
They are still in pureply cuz i needed room to attach the 3 hubs to the case 💀
