Penny Loafers : Thrift or buy new?
I'm currently looking to buy some loafers for the summer, and I don't know if I should buy them used or new. If I buy them new, are there some good budget places, as it would be my first pair?

Budget leather shoes are pretty bad most of the time, I would always try for secondhand first
You can plausibly get a decent pair of loafers for 80-200 whereas 80 dollar new loafers will probably fall apart and look like crap doing it
I bought new loafers for around 150 and thrifted a pair for 8 and the second pair gets way more usage
tbf a very lucky find, but it's possible for you too!
Got alden loafers, cape cod last, 9D for $50. My heel slips out. Sigh. Anyways my point is you can absolutely thrift loafers and loafers seem to sell secondhand for much lower than like oxfords
just finding this thread, also looking to thrift some penny loafers. can anyone recommend a worthwhile brand?
Brands i look for is allen edmonds, alden, polo, Ralph Lauren, cole haan (older models), Johnston & murphy, brooks brothers, gh bass, eastland, sebago, bostonian
I think that's Everything but i wouldn't let brand get you too bogged down. I literally just bought these that are from a defunct brand from the 90s for 60 bucks. They aren't resolable which is the only negative.
