Polo is fine but baggy when tucked in

(I wear polos to work) Untucked polo is fine, could be a bit slimmer in the waist. Chest is perfect. When I tuck it in for work though, the back of the polo is spoofy. I tried the "military tuck" but it doesn't help. There's also shirt stays which I can give a try too. I was wondering if I could bring it to a tailor and ask for darts, but have the darts as close as possible to the side seam. Usually if the shirt is really baggy I take in the sides which takes in both front and back, but I think the problem here is excess fabric in the lower back area more than anything else. I do have a sewing machine and know very basic tailoring -- whenever I try to take in the sides for the waist only it always makes the chest smaller a little bit. I guess the slimmer waist "drags" down the fabric normally around the chest area making it tighter.

Pics? Many moons ago I used those straps that attach from your socks to the bottom of your shirt, could be worth investigating if you wear pants to work in summer.

are you taking the sides in equally all the way up to the armpit? to fix what i think you're describing without darts, you would need to taper, probably just the last 1/3rd of the shirt. i think shirt stays are the easiest solution.

if i were to do it myself, I have the shirt laid flat, side seams on each end, so when I take it in it's equal front and back. Regardless, I make a mark where my chest ends (lower pec), mark a line, and then I start tapering from that height all the way to the bottom of the shirt. It still feels like my chest diameter gets shrunk a bit, idk
