Can no longer access RatOS/Mainsail -- seems like everything is read-only now?

Hey guys, I power-cycled my pi after updating the firmware to utilize a bltouch instead of the superPINDA and I can no longer access RatOS. The I am using a cm4102032 + Manta M4P. The hotspot opens without issue and I can still connect to it. I can still SSH into it. Initial troubleshooting (just updating and reinstalling moonraker) it seems like a ton of directories are now read-only and I'm unable to do much actual troubleshooting as a result. Any ideas?

When you say you power cycled it, how did you do this? If you don't properly shut it down you probably corrupted your SD card which is why the directions are weird

Cut power from the PSU. Its a cm4102032, so no SD card, its eMMC flash

You still should do a proper shutdown

I guess it didn't occur to me that I would need to be so cautious. It looks like the eMMC was damaged as I seem to have went from 32 GB to less than 8 GB of available storage. Seems I have fried what was once a perfectly good CM4. Bummer.

Well I know what to do going forward. Thank you for your time.

😮 To be clear, the most damage you can do by cutting power is corrupting the file system. It should not be possible to physically damage the eMMC that way. A reflash would solve that. But that error in your screenshot is concerning. I'm not sure what could've caused that

I saw a similar error many moons ago when i used a 128GB SD card for my 3DS. It became corrupted and most of the SD card somehow became permanently read-only. I have no idea what caused it but it seems my CM4 is more or less ewaste now. I think what I'll do next is rehome my Manta M4P, get a SKRat, and then build a RatOS VM on my homeserver and use a long USB cable. I did something similar with OctoPrint before i built my RatRig.

The read only part happens when the sectors on the flash memory dies. eMMC is made up of the same chips, so they too will die at some point. But it takes a lot of writes. alternatively there are USB 2.0 m.2 adapters I myself haven't managed to kill an SD card yet though As long as you buy good quality ones (sandisk extreme pro is my go to), they hold up for a very long time.

Appreciate the suggestion, but going by BTT's documentation it seems booting by SD card or via USB is not supported on the Manta M4P unfortunately. So my options are the CB1 or my VM method. Oh well.

It is. If you get a CM4 without eMMC. It's a limitation of the CM4, not the board. Also the USB 2.0 m.2 adapters use the pi GPIO should work on manta too Manta doesn't really do anything than break out compute module IO

Right, hence i can't use it. I bought this eMMC CM4 long before i built the Ratrig. Well, i guess i can still do my VM idea and report back how it works lol. Otherwise my local microcenter has the CB1 in stock.
