First layer issue

This is the most squished I can get my first layer to go and I literally can't go lower without destroying my nozzle. This is 2 layers thick 1mm nozzle 1.2mm first layer width.

Does the second layer looks good to you? I really can't tell from the pic

theres one small patch i dont like but honestly ive spent this much time with my first layer im actually shocked at how much squish you all have like with all my other printers the first layer was easy this is the first time ive used a 1mm nozzle and wow is it different from the .6mm i have

What's the layer height? The too much squish is sus IMO...if your layer height is the same as the 0.6 nozzle it should have the same squish

SUS Also I really dislike to do a different layer height for the first layer, hard to tune, and if there is a different it should be really small not 30%

what are your's set at? like should i be setting both values to what i want my base layer height to be?

Always the same

huh ok

And if you have a different color it would help 😛

that's how the SS profile for the printers started and I just followed it, i didn't know not to. currently only black PETG unfortunately

Also there is a slight chance that SS is trolling you with the space settings In width & flow, see that the spacing between the lines make sense

It should be slightly lower then your layer width...depended on how much overlap you want
Mr.Robot

120% like normal

no, the spacing to the right

with big nozzles "cutting corners" can help fill the gaps at the ends. try it at 100%

It doesn't look that bad to me....if it helps on my 0,4mm nozzle in the Minion and on Cura I have it set to 0,38 line width, it's how it showed the best results to me.
Mr.Robot
Mr.RobotOP•2y ago
@elcoj my cutting corners was set to 0% orignally, im runnning the 100% now to see i just finsihed runnning the EM test againg and still got the same value as before, im printing the same test as before with the cutting corners turned on.

the setting only helps with the small gaps where the infill touches the walls, not with the gaps between lines. For that you just need to adjust flow you should adjust flow based on the top of a calibration cube or something, at least 10mm high and not solid otherwise you cannot distinguish z-offset from flow
Mr.Robot
Mr.RobotOP•2y ago
the standard calibration cube or the actual flow test in SS? cuz the cutting corners did make the edges alot nicer for sure

I think this is a good quick test: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1622868
Fast edge over/under extrusion test by NirDobovizki
I doing some testing and I needed an over/under extrusion test I can repeat with different settings without wasting hours or tons of material - so I designed this little thing. It uses about one gram of filament and takes 7 minutes to print - and you can know if you have over or under extrusion without any tools. Print with 0% infill and 1.2mm s...

but your 100% right not the lines

don't bother with the calculations, just print 2 at a time until they slide into each other perfectly but after that, just look at the top of a cube you might want to scale up this model for your large nozzle because it needs to be printed with 0 infill and 3 walls and is designed for 0.4
Mr.Robot
Mr.RobotOP•2y ago
ok ill print it at 200% scale to get 3 wall ty @elcoj ok so outside 19.61 inside 20.22 but his test is and calculator tells me to change my EM, but you said adjust my first layer flow
elco
elco•2y ago
Don't measure, print 2 at a time and slide them into each other First get your flow right, then z offset Don't use a different flow for the first layer Well, maybe for a textured sheet it makes some sense, but z offset it's your main adjustment

Mr.RobotOP•2y ago
will do sorry for the million questions. the part i was confused by is you said to increase my flow but the test for EM, if the parts have a gap when i print two at the same time and slide them together, how do i know how much to increase my flow by?
elco
elco•2y ago
The calculations didn't work well for me. So just increase in steps, it's a super quick print It's important to have 3 walls without infill If this fits together perfectly, other prints will to

@mr.robot7392 Did you solve it?
Mr.Robot
Mr.RobotOP•2y ago
still running EM tests, i honestly cant get it any better, the part that confuses me the most is if i run a print the way it is now with the amount of first layer squish that i have the prints turn our great, i have no complaints.
