Need help with budget second PC built for recording
hello i just joined this discord because i need help getting into recording
is this the right place to get tech/obs help?
my situation is i have replaced my broken rtx 2060 card with radeon 6600xt and found out i have to 1000kbps max for obs to record a decent video but the problem is....it creates a large file
i upload to youtube but youtube heavily cuts down video quality. i heard nvidia require less kbps and get better quality at times and that is why i like to have a video card dual pc to record. but the thing is i don't know which parts to get im on a budget
i was thinking rtx 3060 499$ canadian maybe? is it over kill? im not planning to play games on that PC, just recording and maybe a bit of video recording(but i down scale my resolution 2560x1080p) using an 21:9 monitor
im not planning to do like 4k recordings just the 2560x1080 to get vp09 on youtube

Use cqp values and not bitrate via CBR or VBR. Use hevc encoder instead of h.264 etc if hard drive space really is an issue for your setup
Or if you want test out AV1 using any intel arc gpu. Arc 380 being the cheapest
With such a low end system using a 6600xt though, why not upgrade GPUs instead of a 2nd pc?
ty for telling me. my PC currently is handling games at max setting very well. it's just when it comes to recording. im not sure if upgrading my graphics card would take a big hit when gaming like genshin at max settings and recording higher quality videos
then i need to up my power supply as well.
but i probably would need a second power supply either way
but having a second PC gonna use a lot of electric right? but i probably only turn it on if i need to record. i just need that nvidia encoder nvec...
also 800 dollar vs 400 dollar graphics card. they both have the same encoder right?
do they record the same?
just want a PC focus on recording my main PC...my 6600xt sometimes have trouble recording but when it's not record. gaming runs okay
I hear a lot of great things about intel arc...but is it really better than Nvidia? i have horrible experience recording with AMD.
not sure what model my rog strix mother board is...
GG @Dennis Li, you just advanced to level 2 !
need to take screen shot later
think this will work? i get there graphic card cases
external graphics cards
will it work?
through thunderbolt
but the thing is...the PC is running amd drivers
will it not work?
For the GPU I'd actually recommend an Arc because of AV1 Recording however if you do more than that then an rtx 3060 would be plenty
You can run DriverDDU to uninstall your AMD drivers.
better off to sell your current PC and just build a better single PC setup with that money and whatever you were planning to spend on the second one imo
^
if you tell us the rest of your pc specs and what other games you are planning to play and record that would be helpful
you are trying to run games maxed out and record? your gpu is doing alot for you then. you dont need a nvidia gpu but would be the easiest to slot in after removing the amd drivers. intel arc as well.
in terms of nvidia gpus, any RTX 2000 series and RTX 3000 has the same encoder regardless of the price. if you want AV1 recording, you will need a RTX 4000 series, AMD rx 7000 series or Intel ARC gpus.
for graphical comparisons between intel and nvidia look at any eposvox video in the recent months.
If he’s serious about recording I’d probably get a 4000 series just for the AV1 capabilities. You’ll save money long term due to needing to buy less storage space 😅
as long as hes not sticker price shock on the gpu price of 4000 series sure
Yeah idk, spending more on a 4000 series initially will save a lot of money long term imo. AV1 recording size is very nice
thank you everyone for the help
yes im very shocked at the price...no 4060? only 4070 is on the market?
at the moment yes
i live in canada and use canadian dollars. 1,100+ canadian dollars
for my PC specs... i5 9600k cpu
6600xt radeon
16 ddr 4 ram
okay i will try to sell my 6600 xt and get a 4000 series and get a new power supply
planning to replace my power supply, my friend helped build my pc 1 year ago, never changed power supply.
the reason i wanted to have a dual PC set up is... i heard if i run intensive games..the cpu and gpu taking most of it's power handling games then producing high quality
for intel arc...i never own one and im worried if it is not good as nvidia
this hasnt really been an issue for years tbh
okay i will get 4000 series
i check online and it says 850 max watt and 700 minium...
if you dont care about AV1 then a used 3080ti would be good too
is this a good power supply? i picked the cheapest
thermaltake smart power supply 750
4070 should also be coming out in the next month or two if you want to wait for that
and it's gold for 135 canadian dollars
yeah i can wait
and it is modular too which im looking for
is thermal take psu any good?
oh it's set to launch april 13th
GG @itzmojo, you just advanced to level 3 !
i see other psu more expensive for the same amount of cash
200$ cheaper than 4070ti
okay i get 4070 instead
i have a question about thunderbolt
eGPU
is recording with eGPU nvec the same quality?
as long as your gpu get the pcie bandwidth yeah it should be the same
why go egpu? are you on a mini itx rig
pcie bandwidth?
GG @Dennis Li, you just advanced to level 3 !
wait not all pcie is the same? wait i need to check my motherboard
my motherboard is rog strix z390-e
think it can fit the 4070?
fit yes. pcie 4.0 is backwards compatible but you might be better off upgrading to a newer platform in general
i have to upgrade my motherboard?
my PC is still kinda new. not 100% sure if i should upgrade
The 6600xt is already a pcie 4.0 card
You should be 100% fine without upgrading your platform
no the problem is the encoder for recording
i want nvec
performance is okay running at max settings 60fps for most my games but i want to record lossless quality. and get greater results.
that is why i would like to switch back to Nvidia. i do worry about cash but i will try to save for nvidia even if it is 30 - 40% higher price for performance. is there a way to get nvec encoder?
like is there a way to buy some hardware instead of the whole nvidia graphics card?
I undersrand. I'm saying you don't need a new platform(motherboard + cpu) to use a pcie 4.0 card
As you are already using one
oh
okay ty. i will stick with my current motherboard and cpu. sorry i just didn't know what platform meant
Yea. Just trying to save you some $$$

If his goal is to create a more capable gaming/recording pc then I’d probably upgrade cpu and mobo too. 9600k is starting to show its age a little bit compared to newer stuff
I get that. I'm just clarifying that they don't "NEED" to do that for a newer gpu to work properly
But that 9600k will be just fine for a consistent 1080/60 in most things imho

i sent at 100,000 kbps obs
set*
i can't send link to my vid right?
Dennis Unlisted Video Channel
that is my channel, i will change the test video to public. youtube cuts down quality of video. but i see people that record same gameplay but have good quality videos even high motion
100000 is more than you need for 1080p
yet still bad video quality
:C
i public the one with genshin
Bitrate is not what you want for recording on amd cards. You need to use CQP values as i stated before
also i sent the AMF options
Increasing the bitrate will just give you stupidly big file sizes
yes.
im looking for the highest quality recording
MaxNumRefFrames=4 BReferenceEnable=1 MaxConsecutiveBPictures=1 BPicturesPattern=1 HighMotionQualityBoostEnable=1 PAHighMotionQualityBoostMode=1
Might be time to utilize intel quicksync
For recording I just set CQP to 20 and forget it. I’ve always gotten good results with that
intel quicksync?
The igpu of the 9600k
my older nvidia card recorded better quality that is why i wanted to switch back to nvidia
sorry im kinda being a pain >_<
I just want to try intel quicksync and see if it works for you
By all means you can upgrade gpus thats your money
need to look up intel quicksync
But I'm trying to save you money
Please do this Dennis ^ saves you hard drive space and better quality settings than what you will get with AMF.
i have 1tb hardrive lying around but it is old

1 sec need to check quality setting
GG @Dennis Li, you just advanced to level 4 !
preset at quality and using CBR
..... YOU do not need to use CBR in recordings
just use CQP and thank us later
okay i will try
okay i will try right now
yes hes running into wall with AMDs encoder hence why i want him to try intel quicksync to record first.

my settings in the upcoming release of obs

works really well and I get pretty small file sizes for 1440p/120
i should set to 49?
not with regular cqp
regular cqp stick to 20
and btw, amd's h265 is quite good
okay i recorded 1 min clip uploading to youtube
the raw file looks okay

just need to compare to other videos
100mbps isn't all that high. cbr is just a waste
you either miss quality or waste file size or both
and comparing how the end result is on YT is a poor test.
suprisingly my pc can run 100mbps and didn't notice performance loss but if go higher than 2560x1080...recording crash
my monitor is 3440x1440
res
but i keep it 2560x1080 and turn to 60hz
wait 34 minutes to upload a 1 minute clip O_o
guess i have to do my game's daily task while waiting

Probably not processed yet
it's 1440p setting 1 min clip
Links are okay in support threads like this
it's processed. i get that youtube cuts down the quality but i see some videos 1080 no 4k option and have vp09 quality and high motion doesn't make video choppy
really want to make a montage of some of my gameplay
Link the clip
i can link?
before clip on vid
beware loud music in the background
sorry if i blasted anyone's ears
skip to the combat part is where the choppy part is

GG @casting_metal, you just advanced to level 2 !
these are the resolution i can record...
2560x1080, 2560x1440 and 3440x1440
but i mainly record in 2560x1080 so it can handle 100mbps more easily
also uploading 2560x1080 the stats for nerds shows vp9
this was recorded last month
i will upscale 2560x1440 resolution to my native res 3440x1440p

encoder
Your quality honestly looks fine. I don’t see the issue

how good is AMD Ryzen 5 3600?
when i download it from youtube they gave me back a low resolution fire
file*
that 2070 looks expensive
is the 4070 that much better?
Yes
right the 4070 has not release yet
wait so they release the ti verison first?
how reliable is userBenchmark website?
i have to wait for people to test out the 4070 when it release before comparing to the ti version?
probably the worst sourse the benchmarks
anyone know a reliable benchmarker?

i mean, usually they always work their way down the stack
4070ti is also a renamed card. was meant to be the wannabe 4080
