My first thought was you can just group them and copy.

I'm not sure how you see this working. Can you give a concrete example? Usually guides are useful because the add structure to strokes. Other than the hull brushes I can't see how other strokes would be useful as guides.
Say you created some irregular topology like a human face and you wanted to paint shadows directly onto to existing topology instead of through or around it. This could potentially be very helpful for that in that you wouldn't have to be precise in all axis' for you strokes and could instead concentrate on painting
