Query on Shader status
i was told by the FAQ to ask questions here so i suppose this is where i'm intended to ask such questions. before i start i want to acknowledge that i understand shaders will be hit and miss and some may or may not work. im also aware that this is not something quite ready for a stable release and i'm not intending to put any pressure or stress on the team. im asking this purely to satiate my own curiosity and temper my expectations for if/when the changes in the experimental branch i saw mentioned on an issue report on gitlab (that was last updated 2 days ago) do eventually get merged into stable.
preface done, how is the current implementation looking? what limitations and "catches" should i be aware of before getting myself excited? does it only work with OF or does iris/oculus work? what other mods (notably sodium and its related mods/ports) are hard incompatible and "compatible but only with 'x' setting(s)"? have any specific shaders been tested so far and not worked with this (im partial to complementary so thats the one im most curious about)? do shaders have any (of their intended) affects on DH "chunks" or do they remain flat shaded on top of distance fog? appreciate this amazing mod and do look forward to seeing it with shaders in the (hopefully near) future 🙂

Last I looked into it, optifine shaders should partially work (LODs will render but don’t receive shading, or receive shading incorrectly) and with a recent change Iris shaders should behave similarly.
In the future LODs may receive shading, but I can’t promise anything since I’m not the one working on that.
For a rough idea of what you could expect from shader support please check out the post I wrote here:

i did see those in the FAQ. they were a couple of months behind the comment i was referencing however and was curious if things had progressed beyond that. thx for the info and confirming the referenced FAQs are still up to date 🙂

Sure,
Originally Iris prevented DH from rendering at all, but with this change DH can now render alongside Iris shaders. However, since DH uses a different vertex format than vanilla MC, the shaders probably won’t render LODs correctly.
Along with that, the changes I was referencing are only available in the dev build, which isn’t publicly available or stable yet.
in theory would a shader pack be able to add support on their end, once IRIS' and DH's updates supporting such things go live?
