Game suddently freezing (I need to close it or it take 10min to crash)
Hello guys, first of all this mod is amazing it's quite impressive and will definitely change the game in near future (already near perfect for vanilla playing).
So my problem is with the 1.16.5 version (mod v 1.6.5a), I am playing with a big modpack (enigmatica 6 expert) and after about 20min gameplay it crash whenever I have the mod. When I force close minecraft it give me the code -805306369, and telling me to add more ram. I keep adding ram to the game and it keep doing that (even with a very small render distance).
I have read that Ars Nouveau has compatibility issues with DH, since it's in the modpack, I was wondering if it could be the cause ? I have tried lots of settings to make this work out since I absolutely love the mod but I can't get it working with the modpack :(.
Additional info : I allocated 10go of ram to the game (through curseforge), but I don't know if it's ram exceed 100% allocated in f3 menu when it appen, since F3 menu is horrible on 1.16.5 I always remove it so I don't have the number on the screen when it appen :s. So maybe it's just my game lacking of ram at some point (I only have 16gb so can't go really higher rn). I have checked the logs and nothing look like a critical error, I feel like it just stop writing logs when the crash occur so no logs are written about it. I have tried few JMV arguments so far but nothing change, mayeb I am not using the right one. It's not on singleplayer, never tried but I could if multiplayer is a possible cause.
And if after all of this it appear to be unsolvable problem, I will just remove it but 16 chunks render distance feel like 2 now 😅

Little update : I have tried to reduce even more ram consumption (vanilla render distance to 10 and dh to 32), closing every single little application running in background and using some jvm argument I have seen here and it didn't crashed so I guess the problem was only memory
how much ram do you have btw?
16gb with 10gb allocated to mc, but that work perfectly fine with vanilla (playing wynncraft), the addition of +300mods from the modpack doesn't help. I have discovered something else btw, whenever I set the render distance of DH under about 48-50 chunks (not sure about 48, but at 45 it wasn't working and 50 fixed it), it become extremely buggy with chunks not loading or not saving or all kind of weird things. I was wondering why the mod keep doing weird things and after tweaking all option it was render distance (because I have previously lowered it so much to save some ram)
set minimum DH distance to at least 48, lower than that can cause lod to render only half of all lod that suppose to render.
and try lower ram allocate to like 6-8gb, DH tends to go above and beyond what you've allocated.
Ok I was wondering if it was a known bug. And Yes I guess it had to much ram previously and with internet+curseforge in background it was saturating my 16gb causing MC to crash. Now it look ok w8 and see
also, if you're using default jvm (g1gc stuff, not zgc/shenandoah gc) try using openjdk18 since they upgrade g1gc on version 18. should help you gain some performance too
Well it always end up crashing, sometime take at least a hour. Using any jvm argument make the things even worst so I am stuck with default jvm. I don't think it's a allocated memory related problem since I had crash even with 20gb allocated and only 50% usage in game. I am on version 1.16.5 I am not sure java 18 is compatible with this version ?
if you're on some kind of custom launcher (prism or curseforge launcher) i think you can switch the java version (otherwise you need to mod the JavaCheck.jar from MC folder)
also if you can, please post latest.log and crash log when the crash happened
Yes I am on curseforge and there is a way to select if we want to use another java but I was wondering if java 18 is fine with 1.16 ? I though forge for 1.16 don't support java version newer than 17 ? (well to be honest java version is kind of a puzzle, everyone is saying something different about it, and there is not a single place to download the best version, there are hundred of website I am quite scared about trying to download a java version)

I have removed few mods supposed to improve perfomance I am trying without DH to see how much the game will eat ram
pretty sure there is a conflict somewhere
problem is the game don't write a crashlog since it just froze and never come back I have to close it
then just post latest.log when it crash
also, just in case, do you overclock your cpu/ram?

I increased it to 24gb and removed few mods, I am not moving (I am afk) and it's holding up alcutally

Well he didn't recover after 30min
and the game was slowly growing his ram usage, was at 19gb before I closed it (11gb when it crashed)
everything was fine until the alt tab btw
try switch GPU Upload to something other than Buffer Storage
otherwise i'll wait for dev to check up on this.
ps. as for Ars Nouveau incompat, if you open Ars' codex from scribe table, it'll crash
Does the issue happen when just using DH?
I’m seeing a lot of warnings for other mods and a couple errors for DH as well.
And like Maybike suggested you could try setting the GPU upload method to “data”
Yes I don't have this problem without dh. I could try to change gpu upload in a moment, it was set to auto. Anyway thanks you both for trying to help me even until now
does JUST having DH installed cause the issue?
I haven't try on 1.16.5 but on my 1.18.2 vanilla (nearly, 2/3 mods to play with wynncraft) instance it work fine
I’m that case it sounds like there is a mod incompatibility (or combination of mods that may be causing the issue).
Please find out what mod(s) are needed to recreate the issue.
I have changed to data and it hold up the whole evening
and crashed after a alt tab 😭 which is weird since that wasn't the first alt tab I have done but it seem to be quite sensible when the game lose the focus
same type of error (I have cropped the thousand of error code from other mods, it's only the end of "latest")
It was running so well for hours I need to try playing without losing the focus on the game at all during a whole play session because that seem to be a main cause, or at least an aggravating one

Interesting… I’ve never seen the buffer builder time out.
Try reducing your CPU thread count to reduce your CPU load and see if that helps.
I need to do additional test to be sure that it's the multitasking who is crashing it, and then deactivate few groups of mods to see who is causing that.
I am on a server and wasn't even exploring (I was building so), my cpu was under 10% load but I could try anyway.
Btw it look like this is the same type of error on the 2 logs ? Because i have changed from auto to data gpu buffer and it was stable for nearly 3h so I though it was related but that's maybe only chance and it has nothing to do with it ?
I have read on the modpack discord after few research that there is a memory leak issue that can occur sometime to people and I guess DH wasn't helping it (strange thing is I didn't had a single problem without DH, though this is a existing bug from the modpack only, anyway). But a solution was using java 17 (with multi mc since curseforge look broken) to fix this bug so I did and now it seem ok, I didn't had a single problem since 😄 I will come back if the karma decide to take back what I just said but if it stay stable we will now know java 8 can be a cause of problem (in fact I have tried before playing with ATM8 and it was crashing the same way as enigmatica 6, but I haven't try to play with java 17, but probability are this was the same problem since the error was the same so the fix could be the same). I have done few other things that could have helped but was more grandmother's recipe kind of thing (turning off undervolting of gpu (it's useless anyway for minecraft), playing windowed, I didn't do a lot of multitasking too but the little I did didn't crashed the game so I prey for the problem to be gone without needing to do the (very) small sacrifice anymore) but they probably don't do anything since I guess java 17 did all the thing, but I will try with my normal condition of play the next time
