Printing with ASA on V-Minion

So making some progress with tweaking my settings for ASA. Still trying to figure out the overhangs but at least it stuck to the bed ok this time and finished. This was sliced with Prusa slicer 2.5 with the stock 0.4 nozzle at 0.2 layer height. PolyLite ASA printed at 255c with bed temp at 108c first layer then 100 for the others. No fan except for bridging at 30%. Running the current RatOS 2.0 on the V-Minion in an enclosure. Any input or comments would be welcome. Not looking to print ASA all of the time just trying to get it the best I can at the present time.

I’m using the same filament as you and it’s printing great in my vminion. So what I did to tune was initially use the superslicer calibration list to get it right. Make sure to start with the bed level print if you’re coming from another filament like PLA as you might need a slight adjust in z offset for a good first layer (I did). I’ve found the Polymaker Polylite ASA seems to like the upper end of its temp ranges for everything, sometimes a little above them. Also run the bed closer to the 90 degree mark for good adhesion. I’ve also been treating the bed with “visionminer nano polymer adhesive” (if you let the part cool completely on the bed sometimes it sticks too well). My SS temps are 260 for first layer and 255 after that with bed temp of 90 for first layer and 87 after that. I’ve also set max speed to the top end listed on the spool. EDIT: wanted to add this- I’m also using a passive enclosure and my workflow is to heat everything up and let it sit for 10-15 min to get the enclosure warm (28ish C) then start the print. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! Still tweaking and testing.

I completely forgot to mention I had no luck with it until I realized the extruder was slipping on the filament and not extruding the right amount despite tuning the e-steps. Everything started to work a lot better once I popped it on to 2 clicks (the flexables setting on the lgx lite).

I didn’t think of trying that, will test this out as well. Thank you!

First things first 😉 I'd start with your z-offset. Seems to be needing some more squish. This will improve the adesion. Then, reduce a bit your pressure advance and the ringing will not be so visible. And then of course, fix the EM.

Thank you!, Been working on building a Voron V0.1 as well so have to get back to the Minion and complete your suggested tweaks.
