Micro Text editor black screen

Latest Termux F-Droid.
since restoring the backup of my S21's termux setup onto my new phone, micro does not want to work at all, giving a black screen when starting either in termux itself or through SSH sessions hosted in termux. I've tried to update and upgrade all packages and reinstalling micro through pkg install after removing it.
is there a good way to get logs that would help tell me why it's not working?
