A few strange issues with bazzite-nvidia
Hey folks! I’ve been running Bazzite on my ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023 with RTX 4090) for months now, and until this past week, it’s been rock solid. But within the last few days, some issues have popped up all at once:
- The device absolutely burns through its battery at all times. This is strange, because the Nvidia GPU is disabled through supergfxctl, and it would previously get around 5 hours of life and remain cool. It’s hot to the touch now, even while idling.
- It generally seems to perform slowly. Opening applications takes some time. Browsing the web and playing videos still seem to work just fine.
- Notably, Dolphin seems to be broken. It does open, but it freezes as soon as it does, and even trying to kill the process won’t work to close it. Only logging out and ending my session will actually close it. But for now, this leaves me unable to easily access most of my files.
One more thing that I should mention is that for the last several months, the Nvidia driver has actually failed to load on startup, and I receive a message during boot that the laptop is falling back to nouveau. I’ve actually been fine with this because I haven’t used it for much gaming, but because of this, I figure that this issue probably isn’t related to the latest Nvidia driver update. I might be totally wrong, though.
Suggestions are appreciated!
