But I still need two hostnames for a domain name. Well... I guess that's it then.

Thanks... I think I can at least get the customer to skip number 3 with HTTP validation. My server can provide that. OK then... I guess that's it. Just need the customer to create 2 CNAME records.

So I guess, as a free tier user, the only way is to get the customer to :
1. get customer to add CNAME for the main domain name
2. get customer to add CNAME for the www sub-domain
3. get customer to add TXT validation for both main domain and www sub-domain
