Game Mode Update Glitch
No matter how many times I updated in Game Mode, even changing the OS Update Channel from “Release Candidate” to “Stable” it seemingly kept failing to actually update.
In the past, on my other Bazzite HTPC, when I clicked “Update All”, I ended up breaking my Mesa drivers by clicking, “Update All”. This PC is identical, save for using a slightly different AMD GPU, but that experience coupled with duplicate update entries (for things like Mesa, KDE/Gnome Environment, and more) being a repeatable situation, has made me very, very hesitant to update frequently or in Desktop Mode at all (unless I can help it).
That said, updating in Desktop Mode (as confirmed in Discover) bit by bit seems to have happened as I have confirmed in both Discover and Steam Desktop Mode that my system is up-to-date. However, when I boot my PC into Game Mode I continue to have two persistent update issues:
1. There is a persistent Software Update that currently shows, “STEAM DECK BETA CLIENT UPDATE: MARCH 21ST” (I have had this previously stating different dates/updates)
2. No matter how many times I change the OS Update Channel in Game Mode to “Stable”, it reverts to “Release Candidate” each time; this option is unavailable in Desktop Mode.
——TL;DR——
I was hoping I could get help in understanding/resolving the following:
- Why does Desktop Mode state there is no update while Game Mode states there is?
- How can I update my Steam Client in HTPC mode to resolve this recurring, contradictory message about a Steam Deck Beta Client Update?
- How can I fix my OS Update Channel to permanently use the Stable version rather than the Release Candidate?

Install for Windows Games is Greyed Out
Hi. I've got a new Bazzite install on an old laptop, Dell Lattitude 3310, just completed installing using GNOME (I also have a Steam Deck; Still running SteamOS on that, so I'm somewhat familiar with Linux.)
When I run Steam on the Dell using Bazzite Steam it updates fine and lets me install Linux games without problem, but anything Windows is greyed out. I thought at first this was a Proton issue but saw that ProtonPlus was installed; I installed ProtonUp-Qt and Protontricks anyway (the more the merrier, right?), but that didn't seem to do anything to enable the Install button (which makes sense since that's an outside program; why would it be "connected"?).
I remember that I ran into trouble with the SteamDeck when using the Itch.io launcher/installer where, if I used the Linux version of the launcher it would only ever install the Linux versions of the games, so I wasn't sure if that might be some of the issue here, that Steam is the Linux "version", so only wants to install Linux versions of games?
Has anyone come across this issue at all? Anyone know of a fix/workaround? And is this a GNOME issue, maybe, that I need to use KDE to have access to the same repos that Steam uses on the Steam Deck?
I'm a bit stumped
