SSL/TLS & WAF mTLS vs. Zero Trust mTLS??

There are multiple guides on Cloudflare's website for setting up mTLS, one for the zero trust platform here and one using WAF and SSL/TLS rules here I have a service hosted in a Cloudflare Tunnel (Zero trust), but am using mTLS enabled via WAF rules. It seems to work just fine but I'm curious why there is another guide to take to enable mTLS via zero trust rather than WAF and SSL/TLS. Is there any functional difference? Should I be using one or the other?
