8 bucks is kinda fine until you realize that all the roads lead back to claude... then 100 prompts a month is just not enough, even 260 isnt which equivalent to claude's semi-unlimited pro pricing.
BUT if you additonally want to test out all other models and dont want to pay all of them (chatgpt) and want to have a fast and functional backend (deepseek) t3 chat is fine

rolling your own auth
I've read that some people are rolling their own with lucia, I'm fiddling around with it as well, but the hassle is kinda like, yeah maybe i should really just use clerk^^
