Bulk Import Behaviour
Hello, I've setup Immich and have been testing its sync feature and also for storing photos in general, so far I am very happy with it.
I initially planned to import all of my photos from various source that has been for the most part disorganized from the multiple backups I have, so I imported most of them using the docker image and the bulk import feature.
I would like to know how does Immich detect that it already has a certain picture in its database? for instance, one time I tried to import a directory, which after immich indexes, contains 16k items, however immich only wants to import 2k of them, I assume this is because immich knows that the other 14k, it already has inside of its database?. So for this instance I imported that 2k pictures, and then I reran the same command to import the same directory, and once again immich finds 2k pictures it can import, I didn't use the
--delete
flag so obviously the previously imported files are not yet deleted, but in this case shouldn't immich not want to import anything as I have just imported the pictures from that directory (i.e. immich should now know it already has those pictures)?
now, puzzled by this behaviour, I triggered a dry run on my backup program which is meant to backup incrementally, however it also does not detect any new files on the immich directory.
TL:DR
How does immich know what to import (i.e. what it has and what it does not yet have), and why after importing from a certain directory (without deleting), rerunning the same import command will tell that immich will import the same amount of image as well
