Between the linear and switching voltage regulator. Which is more efficient
Switching regulators are more efficient, having efficiency ranging from 70 to 90%+ depending on the topology you're using.
Efficiency of linear regulators can be okay when the input voltage isn't too far from the expected output. Once the input range is wider than the output by a significant amount the efficiency drops, excess voltage are dissipated on the regulator as heat(regulator becomes excessively hot).
So, depending on the application, both can be used.
