Frequent IP changes with WARP+
@elithrar sorry to bother you but do you know anything about the above conversation and the related (same issue different people) community thread? https://community.cloudflare.com/t/frequent-ip-changes-with-warp/382040/2?u=ishmeet

Frequent IP changes with WARP+
As far as I know, you will be assigned a different IP each time you connect to WARP. It should only change if you reconnect, whether manually or due to connection disruption. Did this happen on a cellular connection?

thread for warp thing, cc @albony @stupefied_ @elithrar
basically some people connecting to warp are getting 104. addresses that seemingly change every request or two and also no ipv6 connectivity

and elithrar sorry if you dont know about this, saw you talking about warp before and so thought you'd be the best person to try and escalate this to

if youre using teams it seems to be more likely to occur if you have the proxy off, but theres no ironclad pattern
youll know youre affected if you have a 104. IP instead of an 8.

There seems to be a few things going on here, so let me sum up my understanding:
1. Some folks are seeing their egress IP change too much, which triggers session/IP security features on some sites. We’ll look into this. It is always a trade off between improved privacy vs the way the web works today.
2. Users are seeing egress from 104.16/12 (which is expected) — the new egress range brings more accurate egress IP locations so that folks get web results and content based on their approximate locale (vs. the data center you happen to route to).
The improved geo experience is rolling out now, which is why some folks don’t see it. You won’t see it on Zero Trust (Teams) just yet. We’ll be blogging about it this week - it’s the beginning of a number of improvements to WARP for both free and paid.

Is there a reason why these people lose IPv6 connectivity when this happens?
We’re still rolling out v6 for this. We get far (far) more complaints and issues around geolocation than v6. We expect to solve the v6 gap soon.
It’s not ideal, I’m aware.
Yeah that and the IP changing felt like a regression to me, but good to know both are on your radar
Thanks for the clarification!
We’re looking at the egress IP changing now and should have a fix in place within the week. We know what the problem is.

Maybe it depends whether you have IPv6 supported on your system/ISP without warp?

Is that website the only one you're testing with? It's behind CF and it's ipv6 detection is a little wonky

See https://twitter.com/cloudflare/status/1555959820263596034?s=21 for the high level changes, especially our new geoIP selection. We’re still working on reducing egress IP changes over time, without compromising privacy.

We’re excited to announce two major improvements to our 1.1.1.1 + WARP apps.

Not as straightforward as we had expected. We have to break some assumptions around per-connection egress IP mapping that are built into the new system.
Less pushed out, more just “more work”

Are you still getting frequent IP changes?
Mine appears to have stopped

Does your network without warp support IPv6 by any chance?
But I'm glad the changing IP is fixed for you too, all is working fine for me atm including IPv6

IPv6 issues — esp. on iOS + macOS — where users were not seeing IPv6 egress IPs used heavily should be improving
(We're rolling fixes out to the last set of users as we speak)

MaxMind.
Both consumer WARP and Zero Trust users should see a significant improvement in IPv6 connectivity now. We've fixed an issue that would cause macOS and iOS (especially) to prefer IPv4. To pick up the fix "immediately", you should reset your encryption keys in the client, which has the side-effect of forcing the client to fetch a fresh config from the API. Or restart your computer 🙂

It makes sense. Every packet is being sent over the CF network, so if you start sending GBs and TBs, it would start costing a shiny penny

Cloudflare are generous, but if you need that scale, you just gotta buy your own transit.

Wonder if you could buy your own transit, but pay CF for routing data, to get there faster, like ASR
But self-hosted

Please don’t @ me repeatedly - if you have Zero Trust issues please open a Support ticket. There’s also no information to quantify “tanking your Ethernet speeds” means. You’re not going to get 1Gbps line rate out of WARP.
