What hardware are you using? What WiFi Chip do you have?
I will send hardware in a minute sorry
I am using a "D link" wifi adapter and the 600 mbps Dual band adapter if you are asking that
The pc hardware is
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
What other information should i include?
600 Mbps dual band adapter?
I need like, the WiFi Chip that your card is using
Is it Intel? Realtek? Mediatek?
I think it is realtek but how do i check to make sure
lsusb
in the terminalAlr ty
I think its the USB optical mouse

yea realtek alright, this does not bode well unfortunately, they don't have a good track record for being supported on linux
is this something integrated into the motherboard, or a detachable USB device?
Its detachable usb device
i recommend getting one with intel chipset if you can
does it have to be usb? no spare PCI slots in your motherboard?

also what spare USB slots do you have? 2.0? no 3.0+?
I mainly use a usb and not an ethernet cable since i live on the 2nd floor and there isnt an easy way to connect
I dont think i have any spare usb slots im mainly using a really REALLY old one i found and it worked fine on windows
If i have to i will buy a different one
yes, because realtek drivers are mainly supported on windows, the linux drivers are reversed engineered, and they are hit or miss
im trying to find you a good recommendation, but seems most USB based wifi antennas are either mediatek or realtek
💔
@Skiptrace do you know if mediatek is any good?

this should be a good resource for you to use to find a good compatible plug and play replacement
All the dual band ones should work right?
it really depends on chipset they use
this realtek one is in the list, only 20 dollars: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NSSM7W?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

in the US anyway
if you only have a USB 2.0 available, i would not spend too much money, since if you get a really fast/fancy one, you're not going to be able to take full advantage
Note: This is a single-state adapter.
Note: This adapter uses the mt7612u chipset.
Note: Oldest currently supported LTS kernel that supports this adapter: kernel 5.4
Note: This adapter is a very popular adapter with Linux users.
What chupsets work and dont work?
that readme lists which ones are supported and work
gonna have to read through it
Im in the eu so this would prob cost like 50€ or smth with shipping
yea, probably should find it on EU amazon page instead of the US link i sent you 🙂
anyway, good luck
So whats the main thing that determines if its compatable or not so i can find it
It says that it supports linux/mac/windows

I jst read abt the thing i have and it says that it supports linux
So idk what the issue may be
No.
You should be buying a PCIe Wifi card.
PCIe > USB for WiFi
And, if you're not using a Desktop, why are you using a USB Wifi chip for a Laptop???
it didn't sound like he has available slots
Then what are the slots being taken up by?
Because unless the board is mITX, they should be able to put a WiFi card in a PCIe slot
yep i agree, my sister has a very crappy AM4 motherboard with no wifi, PCIe based intel wifi card fixed her problem, and works really well on linux
I have an available slot but i have never used that type of card before
Also i will try today maybe to use some disk reader i found and update wifi drivers trough a disk
That likely won't work.
Random wifi drivers on a disk are not going to change anything.
It's just a PCIe Card, just like a graphics card.
I will prob switch back to windows to check on my disks health first and maybe get linux after i figure out whats wrong with the internet connection
Brother, we literally told you what was wrong.
Your little USB WiFi dongle just isn't supported in Linux. We recommended you to buy a PCIe WiFi Card that uses an Intel based WiFi Chip.
Yeah ik that i need a new wifi card i am saying that i need to go back to windows for a disk health checker cause it may be the cause of why everything is corrupting
You don't even need to do that lol
You just need to check the SMART data of the drives.
Wdym how do i do that
Nvm i think i found a guide

Not there.
Go to your flavor's Partition Manager (Gnome Disks or KDE Partition Manager) and you should be able to right click on a disk and click "SMART Status" or "SMART Properties"
Example from my system

(Yes, I use a Windows 7 theme on top of KDE)
Alr when i get home imma do that ty
I will need to try to find something on the internet but it will come most likely after a week

Here you go. 26 bucks
50€ shipping from america
To lithuania

I will try to find something on the internet that is a bit cheaper and then i will send it here (if i find one)
@Skiptrace something like this?

Idk if its the same type as the one you sent
That’s just an M.2 WiFi Card. You need a PCIe one.
Those M.2 cards don’t come with antennae. They are designed for upgrading Laptops
Yeah i talked to a guy in the bazzite channel and he suggested me to check for updates
And the main issue there arent any PCIe cards on the store that dont come from diff countries
And dont add up to like 20-30€ for a card and +10-15€ shipping and 1 month shipping time
Take a train to another country like Germany and buy one in a physical store?
@Adrian this is one i ordered before and it works great
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzYv0ao
what country btw?
Lithuania
ah
aliexpress should be fine then
the one i sent is 18eur with free shipping
Yeah still gotta wait a full month basically for delivery 💔
eh
usually takes 1-2 weeks for me
for such big price difference on products like these its worth
this one does require a USB 2.0 header though, i assume you have one to spare
iirc it routes the bluetooth through usb 2.0 and the wifi through pcie
works great on bazzite
Most people have spares of those lol
yeah im using 2 and still have 1 left and its an ITX board haha
i dont have this adapter anymore btw
sold my PC that had that one
my ITX obviously has an AX210 built into the i/o itself
