Cowboy hats
Taking a 10 day trip hitting up a lot of the national parks out west. Want to be rocking a cowboy hat most of the time, style around it a bit
On the Stetson website I see some great options, I just wanted to know if there’s a preferred material/look I should be targeting. I know minimal about theses

hard to go wrong with the open road
Wow there’s a legend here to help
What up
So what sorta style are you going for here?
And is it your first cowboy hat?
If you’re going west during the spring/summer I highly recommend straw vs felted. Straw tends to be a bit more travel friendly, and it looks damn good when it’s got some dirt on it and gotten beat up.
I vote firmly against buying any hat from Stetson that doesn’t go full cowboy, for lack of a better word. If you’re buying a cowboy hat, make it a cowboy hat, don’t wimp out
Stetson and Resistol are good brands and hard to beat. Shape and style wise my favorites are the Lobo and Thunder for straw (both of which have a cattleman crown), and the Griffin or Skyline for felt
(Stetson styles)
Resistol has similar options but I stick to straw from them so I’m not super familiar with the names
If you go too high with the crown you’re gonna look like Doug DimmaDome and if you go too large or too small with the brim you’re gonna look like an idiot imo, so stick with cattleman crowns and medium brim
The open road is a good option if you’re REALLY set on small brim, but I feel like there are very few people who can pull it off well without looking dumb, and I think they’re all in this server, so the list ain’t large lol
There’s a thin line between Waylon Jennings and Jason Mraz
Don’t lean the wrong way
:xd:
I want to embrace the full cowboy
I thought felt might look better then straw
To me it’s full cowboy. Everyday use. I need that cowboy look, the curve your referring too
Felt will last you forever IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT tho
I actually had been looking at the lobo but wasn’t positive yet. I’m someone who wears more earth tones
I always take care of my fashion items
Straw will take more punishment with less care needed
I wasn’t sure if I was going to go all in on a $300-$500 hat though
Was vaguely trying to stick 250 and below
Which to me meant a white/light tan color
I really do like the look of the lobo, I guess I had a different interpretation of straw
I didn’t want it to look tacky and that’s why I was going name brand
I have this amazing brown cowboy boots but I guess you just wouldn’t get a black hat since almost any other color would match
I have to remeasure my cranium but I think the size I need the lobo in will be out of stock and who knows when it’ll be back
The Seneca or Corral doesn’t look to shabby either if looking at felt
I have the previous version of the Lobo, the skyline, and the previous version of the Griffin, as well as a fun Resistol straw hat as well. All would probably suit your needs well.

@Trilly
Or similar shapes
Don’t worry about matching hat to boots, that’s crazy talk
You’re overthinking it
Just buy a hat and wear it
I tend to agree with that
I think a standard brim size as well
I don’t need a thin one
This is full cowboy
Fuck I want the lobo
Gotta remeasure
The griffin is extremely similar too
But also out of stock in 7 3/8
God damn it
I stay talking crazy
Most popular size tbh, those get snagged quick
Also my size lol
I’m not sure if it’s still my size since I haven’t been measured for a hat in 16 years
But if anything a little larger
I’m looking at resistol now
Is 4 1/4 standard Brim?
No fuckin clue
Check sheplers or boot barn they stock Stetson
Hahah
Stetson does most of their biz through other companies
So their website stock is usually low
Oh fuck yeah
Sheplers got it in stock
Lfg
Happy cowboyin’
Hell yeah brother
I’m just going to pull the trigger on the 7 3/8 if I need to return I can online
Also what is this belt it’s excellent
Buckle is Montana silversmiths, belt strap is Tony Lama!
Following up here, hat arrived. Straw a little stiffer then I though it would be. Also where should it sit on your head
How would you know too large or too small
1 inch/1.5 inches or so above your ears
The straw will break in, good hats a lot like boots
If the ear thing doesn’t work (if you for example, have weird ears) you can use the same rule with your eyebrows
But also just kinda, where it’s comfy? There’s no real hard and fast rule cuz everyone’s facial structure is a bit different
The only real “rules” with em that I prescribe to are more etiquette shit. Which I’m usually not a big fan of but with hats I typically follow. Don’t rest em on the crown, take em off inside, and they don’t belong anywhere near food
Understood thank you, I’ll give it a measure
Also feel like the hat is not equally curved on both sides idk if thats how it’s supposed to be
I’m just learning haha
But when I tell you, I went full l cowboy
I’m throwing fits
