Use DDU to do fresh install of the drivers
1. Download the newest version Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool
2. Close out all important programs
3. Run DDU as administrator
4. Under the Advanced tab, only check the box “Prevent downloads of drivers from “Windows Update” when “Windows” search for a driver for a device
5. Close and relaunch DDU and select "reboot to safe mode" (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW YOUR WINDOWS PIN OR PASSWORD).
6. If you don't know your PIN or password, then reboot into Safe Mode manually by doing the following:
1. Open the Settings app
2. For Windows 10 users:
1. Navigate to “Update and Security” tab
2. Select “Recovery”
3. Select “Restart Now” under the “Advanced startup” section
3. For Windows 11 users:
1. Navigate to the “System” tab
2. Select “Recovery”
3. Select “Restart now” next to the “Advanced Startup” option
4. Select “Troubleshoot”
5. Select “Advanced options”
6. Select “Startup Settings”
7. Select “Restart”
8. Press the 4 to enter regular Safe Mode
7. Once Windows has rebooted into Safe Mode, enter your PIN or password to log in
8. Open up DDU again
1. Open the options menu and select the following:
- Remove “C:\Nvidia” driver folders
- Remove PhysX
- Remove 3DTV Plat
- Remove GeForce Experience (GFE)
- Remove Nvidia Broadcast
- (DCH driver) Remove Nvidia Control Panel installed from the Microsoft Store
2. Select “Device Type” as “GPU”
3. Select your brand of GPU in the Device section
4. Press the “Clean and restart” button. Your system should reboot automatically.
To install drivers without any bloat and such
1. Download NVCleanInstall from TechPowerup
2. In the main menu, choose “Install best driver for my system”
1. If you want a specific driver, choose from the list of available ones
3. Choose only the things you need:
1. Recommended:
- Drivers (required)
- PhysX (used by some games)
- Microsoft Visual C 2017 Runtimes (not necessary but are good to have regardless)
2. Miscellaneous (not required, only get if you need them)
- HD Audio over HDMI
- USB-C driver (if you have an RTX 20 series GPU with a USB-C port)
- Nvidia App (if you want the features it provides)
- Shadowplay
3. Continue with the installer until the next set of menu options
4. In the Installation Tweaks menu, select the following options:
1. Disable Installer Telemetry & Advertising
2. Perform a Clean Installation
what caused it in the first place?
Looking it up online, seems like the error code 0x80070005 is for some access denied error
People posting about it say it's that they have the Webroot antivirus app that seems to flag Nvidia's driver as not safe, and that might be the case for other antivirus apps out there
Not sure if NVCleanInstall gets around this by disabling the installer telemetry / advertising or if it's something else
i never had that problem before with webroot
Posts I saw were started around 5 months ago so it seems to be a relatively new development
ah
im surprised they haven't fixed it yet
it also stops the nvidia app from updating too
would uninstall it it for moment really fix the problem?
Why do you have it installed to begin with? Windows defender is more than adequate
What dark web ass porn sites are you visiting bro
i don't think windows defender is the best
Well I hate to tell you but nowadays that's an incorrect opinion
99% of the stuff other AV's catch are also caught by Windows Defender
And even then you don't need an AV app as long as you don't go to sketchy sites and use an adblocker
