Hawaiian Shirt with a Suit?!?
I’ve been obsessed with trying the fits from this short out and was wondering what you guys think of these.
When would these be appropriate to wear? What impressions could it give off? I’m personally really fond of all of these but I’ve always loved floral/aloha shirts in the first place, so I’m looking for other opinions!

I kinda hate that guy but the vibe is a good one

The Perfect Occasion For An Aloha Shirt
I guess it should say occasions, since there were two days where it just made sense to wear an aloha. It’s almost like they were calling out to me!

3rd pic is strong, but the suits gotta stay unbuttoned imo
to me, buttoned suit yet the relaxed shirt makes a weird dichotomy
What don’t you like about parker york smith?
Also I like what this guy is going for but the brown suit reminds me too much of a Yakuza boss

I used to do this semi frequently. I still will every once in a while, but it can be v difficult to pull off in a way that looks intentionally uh…douchey for lack of a better word. If you look like a douche (hi) it unironically works better and you’ve really gotta lean into the vibe with the other items you’re wearing. It’s not gonna work with like, a slim, low rise suit. High waist, pleats, flares, and jackets in interesting cuts, colors and patterns will be your friend.

to keep it 💯 I think his fits suck and I don't like the cut of his suits. Looks like he got all of them from Express
I tried this, I think having it unbuttoned makes the coat look a bit long, do you think it looks fine length-wise? Third pic is a fleece I think has a more appropriate length (but I wouldn’t mix a fleece with a floral shirt

If you wore a blazer the length of that fleece
I would mercilessly make fun of you
fleece just looks bad sorry
The jacket is fine but the sleeves are too long. I think you also need to play into the louche vibes of the aloha shirt more with things like jewelry and undoing more buttons. Those fits as-is would just be better with a regular old OCBD and the aloha shirt isn't really adding anything
jacket length is actually great
I guess what I’m trying to do is have the patterned shirt be more of an accent piece rather than the focus
Not gonna happen
Not with that jacket
Jacket needs to be more interesting
Yeah I just wore the fleece to demonstrate the length of blazer. Not actually combining the two
No sorry, blazer
that's a big skill move with a suit/tailoring imo. You're going to need more drama elsewhere: a drapey DB jacket, flashy accessories, etc.
I’m pretending the fleece doesn’t exist
The blazer isn’t interesting enough to actually draw any attention
wouldn’t a DB jacket be entirely too formal for this
DB doesn’t mean formal at all
It’s just a cut
no it's just a different jacket style
By db you mean double breasted right?
I’m wearing a DB in one of the pics I posted above
Ye
I see
What do you guys think of the different pants colors
These are nice tbh
Beans is unironically the king of casual suiting fits
I like the black pants without the jacket the best overall tbh
The only double breasted item I own is a peacoat
nah peacoat and aloha isn't it
that navy db is stunning
peacoat is also a coat and not a tailoring jacket/blazer
I think you gotta get a bit more in your suiting experience before trying the Hawaiian thing tbh
what about the blue on blue no blazer?
no blue on blue
Wdym
I think you’re putting the cart before the horse
This guy will occasionally have fits with that same rayon patterned shirt I linked above. It's too cold rn but he posts them occasionally in the summer

I don’t think you’ve got the items needed to make this work is what I mean
Whew, that green jacket goddamn
I think that specific blazer is hurting you more than anything else. The fabric is very flat and boring an is just more somber and doesn't vibe with the aloha shirt at all.
I do think the shades of blue are probably too close as well but idt that's even a top 5 issue with that pairing
I agree with warp, it's a good vibe but idt you have the jackets or suits rn (unless you have more in a v different vibe) to make it work.
I do genuinely like the shirt with the black trousers tho! I'd just undo a button or two, maybe wear a white ribbed tank underneath if you want another layer, let the tuck flow a bit more, and swap the belt. ik that sounds like a lot but really it's just swap the belt and lean into the shirt vibes a bit more
oh here's another fit he had with a different rayon sportshirt (technically not an aloha shirt but you can't really tell)

Yeah that one’s definitely my favorite of the pack alongside the blue shirt with white trousers. I just thought it suffered from a lack of layers and was looking for ideas wrt that.
And what should I swap the belt to? Is it the color/metal that’s off or something else?
Is black shirt white trousers also a good pairing?
imo just something more vibey, really personal taste
I dislike that fit a lot more. I think bc the pants look to be poly stretch chinos. I just don't enjoy pants like that and would prefer something different. cream linen trousers would be my pick

Belt needs more oomph
It’s bland
this is another take that sticks out to me
accessories, shoe choice etc make the pairing look very deliberate

Sorry to hijack, what's a way to dress up a Hawaiian shirt without suiting or an outer layer - thinking a summer office fit (granted I work at a library and there are some zany fits there so it wouldn't be tooo out of place)
You should make a thread!
having been leaning into this style of dress myself recently, for me at least a high waisted pant really brings it home
forgive me if this was already touched on as i am just skimming through a lot of well put advice, but my personal thought is the shirt itself is not vibrant enough
and it isn't popping enough to bring the look home
