Cannot shutdown, wake, sleep,etc.

The entire computer seems to stay on. All RGB, Fans, GPU all stay on after shutdown or sleep. I have to unplug the computer. Once I plug it back in, it boots up. AMD 9070xt Ryzen 5 6700x IIRC Newish to linux, so not sure how I would even begin to trouble shoot this. Just switched from windows last night.

I have this exact same issue, it's driving me nuts. I'm on kde nvidia desktop edition, it only happens every other time. The fans, rgb lights stay on; the power button alternates normally as if it's on sleep mode - but it won't wake up/shutdown when I hit it. When it happens I just have to shut the power off. Hope to resolve this soon, super annoying. Also, interesting to see it's not an amd/nvidia issue

After upgrade to F41, suspend does not work
Suspend worked fine for me in F40, but after F41 upgrade, it does not work. In F41, clicking “Suspend” causes the following behaviour for me: Screen goes blank Machine power light remains in the “on” state rather than the blinking “suspend” state. I cannot recover from this. Pressing keyboard buttons/moving mouse has no effect. I h...

Steam deck with bazzite

Ishay2w ago
Ah, yeah sounds nice. I also normally just press any key on kb and it resume - but idk what's wrong with this one. Sometimes it just won't suspend or shutdown at all

I do also turn hibernate off on windows, I'm assuming what's happened there is happwening here too
Ishay
Ishay2w ago
I have hibernate toggled off on windows (I'm dual booting, different drives), and also disabled fast boot in bios
Lily
Lily2w ago
right but windows has its own fast boot outside hibernating and bios

Damn, that's a horrible user experience. Can you not hold the powerbutton for 4 seconds instead of unplugging it?
Lily
Lily2w ago
idk if perhaps their hibernation file is conflicting with this one
Ishay
Ishay2w ago
I can hold the power button in order to hard shutdown the pc - but it happens quite a lot of times plus I lose my desktop session so it's not very convenient
biebel
biebel2w ago
i mean once it's in it's not quite shut down state

I don't think everyone who experiences this bug dual boots windows so idk if it's some conflict with windows

Hey can you see if you have automatic suspend on in Settings > Power? Or if you manually suspend it maybe itll have different results if you turn that setting off or change it

On mint the exact same issue of not being able to shutdown nor suspend, and fans/lights kept on?
Lily
Lily2w ago
I mean this was with an AMD Athlon X2 240 and no gadgets or gizmos but my num lock indicator kept on and my mouse was still connected, but no signal to neither VGA nor HDMI Nor DVI

Can't shutdown or turn sleep PC
sometimes after pressing Power Off button Fedora is shutting down, monitor screen is turning off but power led is on and fan is still spinning. So I have to long press power button to completely turn off PC. Same behavior when Fedora turns to sleep. However, sometimes power off/sleep is working correct. And that is not matter what I did before t...

Did you manually upgrade bazzite to 42? I run 'ujust update' a couple times a day, is this not how you update the os?

Do you get any errors in the journal after shutdown? journalctl -b -1 -e where -b -1 is from the previous boot and -e just to the end
Ishay
Ishay2w ago
I'll have to check it after I get this error again. Should it be there after a faulty suspend as well?
Ishay
Ishay2w ago
I don't remember if my last boot was a faulty one, it did happen in like the last hour or so, but not sure if this was my previous session. Just in case posting logs
Lily

for me I apparently downloaded version 42 from their website

I'm not sure if wake after suspend gets counted as a boot. Grepping on error might omit quite a bit. You could also just do a shutdown or suspend and keep track of the time. You can get the logs between any given times. Example journalctl -S "2025-04-06 19:00" -U "2025-04-06 20:00" The date format is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss where seconds are optional also make sure you're on the latest stable bios version for your mobo

Just wanted to update that while I haven't ran it for long enough to confirm, it looks like this solution from the two posts I initially posted in this thread seems to be working for me so far (of course I have no idea what it does and whether it's safe, so do it at your own risk):

It happened again last night, looks very common when I hit the shutdown button and letting it countdown to 30s before shutting down on itself. I'm sending the log here for future reference if any1 has any clue what on earth is going on https://pastebin.com/mCWK6Qb6

Happening a couple of times a day, have to hard power off every time. This time it happened during suspend. Attaching relevant logs here, from journalctl -b -1 I'm hoping/coping so hard Fedora 42 will resolve this lol

Do you have any Bluetooth devices connected? I've had the same issue in the past where my JoyCons would cause the same issues if they were connected before Suspend/Shutdown. Might be worth trying with disabled Bluetooth if it applies to you.

Thanks, nah I don’t think that’s it. Just turned bluetooth off and put system to suspend, and it happened again. I appreciate the devs, but honestly I’m tempted so hard to go back to windows, linux is giving me a death by a thousand cuts lol
