Iris seems to make my GPU crash when I use a boat?
this is a weird one, and a very repeatable one.
I play on MC 1.21.4 (fabric 0.16.10 iirc), found the issue on a server with a whole modpack, but when going in solo with just sodium, iris and my shaders (complementary unbound + euphoria patches, max settings) and whenever I ride a boat in a large body of water (not a river, a river doesn't crash, but an ocean does, and it is specifically when boats are involved, i can swim fine), my game crashes HARD, like full black screens, audio goes BRRRRT and the GPU just gives up rendering minecraft.
Thing is, and it might be a deeper problem, minecraft runs horribly on my PC (specs below), I'm talking 130 fps max with 1% lows at 20 in vanilla, 600fps if i litteraly do nothing but no more than 200 if I do anything but 40fps 1% lows with just sodium, and obviously it drops when I add the shaders the mods and distan horizons.
PC Specs :
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8700F
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
RAM: 32GB of 6000MHz DDR6
STORAGE: 2x4GB NVMe M.2 PCIe 4.0
all of it with ample cooling.
Here's the latest crash log, they don't change much

You can see on the graphs that the GPU clock speed and usage increase while the power draw drops, and so does CPU usage. Then it just gives up rendering the game and it officially crashes (javaw.exe is not responding)
After a pretty long discussion on a reddit post, someone told me to try my luck over here, hopefully I'll be able to use boats someday

Your game crash when you enters a boat, but the crash log says it fails to render a fence? Interesting.
Anyways, do you have any other mods installed?
the crash happens on the full modpack (around 150 mods iirc) and with just Iris, fabric and the shaders, so yes but that's irrelevant. I also managed to crash without actually being in the boat somehow, I had just gotten out of it so it might be a delayed effect.
isn't it? and it's not the texture packs, the one that replaces the boat with a pirate ship was not on, so default boat model, mostly default textures (nothing in the area was affected, at least not more than when i'm not using a boat)
just in case there's anything useful there, here's the reddit post I talked about: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1jm438l/mincraft_is_incredibly_laggy_and_often_crashes/
Ah yes, classic modpack moment.
Let's start off by finding out which one is causing the incompatibility issue.
What is The Thanos Method?
The Thanos Method™️ (more accurately known as a binary search) is a debugging technique used to find the mod or mods that are causing the issues you are experiencing. The method is simple: to find the conflicting mods, split your mods folder into 2 groups. Remove one group, and test in-game. Keep the group that has the problem, and repeat until no more mods can be removed without the issue disappearing. Thanks to The Thanos Method™️, you can now enjoy an issue free modded Minecraft!
"The Thanos Method" is not actually trademarked or even remotely considered an official name. Please don't sue, it was just considered funny.

erm
"the crash happens with just Iris, fabric and the shaders"
:thonkwithshades:
Guess I should read a bit more.
(I was out buying a movie ticket)
was it for a Minecraft Movie :ombee:
fair enough
:linus:
You guessed it.
but yeah that's why I came here lmao, iris is the only thing that's left
and sodium obviously but it won't crash if i disable shaders
@IMS may have to take a look. I’m not sure what the problem is
The way Iris works may be too intrusive when paired with other mods. With that said, knowing which combination of mods that cause this crash is the first step to get it resolved.
they... established that it happens without any mods besides sodium and iris...
Iris, Sodium.
maybe that wasn't the only mods in that specific crash report but i've had a few other with just iris and sodium, i can go find them if you'd like (basically the same error, always that goddamn fence object)
I just tried to change shaders, I was using complementary unbound + euphoria patches, then I tried bliss and it didn't manage to crash, then I went to complemnentary reimagined + euphoria patches and it crashed so that might be an issue with euphoria patches or complementary
I realised the problem might be on the CPU side (I thought it was GPU) because the last crash the CPU was overloaded with Distant Horizons generating LODs, so it was at 100% usage, the GPU was only at 80% or so, then it went to shit (CPU usage drop, GPU usage rise, GPU clock rise, GPU power drop)
