Fashion in Animation - Topic of the day 3/28/25
Fashion can be expressed easier in drawings than real life. That gives animation the ultimate freedom to dress their characters. What are your favorite animated character’s outfits? Have you brought them to real life?

So cute!!
I'm feeling feelings again. 🌈

I'm a big batman beyond fan. Any of the DCAU shows.
Was just about to paste the question.

never read tokyo revengers but their covers are hard as fuck

:caught:
Internet pitstop video on this is pretty fun, I don’t always bite on his stuff esp when he kinda just keeps saying the same words about each thing he likes but he’s a fashion understander and jjba/nana/yyh/dbz/sailor moon/bleach are all anime with above average levels of putting shit on
fairly rare to see this much accessorizing for shounen manga characters
(I actually don’t remember if all of those are mentioned in the video I might be combining multiple videos but they do all put shit on)
i think that's the exact lineup he mentioned lmao
Justice League Unlimited

Showing my age here but d gray man uniform pre redesign still the one of the best in my mind

D.Gray-Man had the right mix of shoujo character design/fashion/art
so pretty
I would wear this.

Were you even a 2000s anime girl if misa didn't have you by a chokehold

anime guy :xd:
whenever I dress for clubbing this is still my inspo
https://ccsakura.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Clothes_and_Costumes and the final boss ofc
Cardcaptor Sakura Wiki
List of Clothes and Costumes
Along the series there's a variety of costumes worn by the main characters of the anime.
So fun Sakura had a different costume each episode.

Yoooooo
clamp was rly into that I also liked yuko's outfits in xxxholic

also a gimmick that she never wore any fit twice
Mikako from Gokinjo Monogatari played a huuge part in finding my own style when I was a teenager, I still regularly come back to Ai Yazawa‘s works for fashion inspo

Nvm can't top this.

Literal reason I started doing this hairstyle
Not just fitted but the greatest piece of superhero television or film ever created.
Yeah, it hasn't been topped for me. But it was kicked off by Tim Burton's Batman (1989)!
Even before I started reading Japanese stuff there was this Korean one set in an imaginary constitutional monarchy and the main character had the cutest butchered hanbok fits

The style was inspired by the original fleischer superman cartoons in the 40s.
They actually made this into a kdrama so some of them became irl pieces

Kingdom Hearts has as lot of parallels with CDG

not sure if that was intentional or not
ya the fashion goes crazy too /s

CDG loves that silhouette and that kind of strap arrangement
Almost 40yrs later and that jacket is still fire ngl

yeah youre not allowed to say numbers like that
Its a "manji" symbol that isn't supposed to be related to the nazis but still hilarious
good to know you got this image locked in
I remembered this from the show's incredible censorship (also Tokyo Revengers is super terrible lol, dropped that shit)
good to know
:caught:
Anyway I do wanna say in the middle of this thread posting inspo that inspo from animated characters is in fact very cool and awesome
BUT don't confuse essentially cosplay with actual fashion
or rather
I love the way urasawa draws suits
They’re never too exciting but big 90s suits with long trench coats are dope
What is good character design
is not good fashion/even close to realistic
Showing this to my barber

if your barber can't do it you need a new one

mothers, legends, icons etc
ideal hairstyle
if your pompadour isn't at least 2 feet
give up

i fucking love how they needed two pics for it
smh everyone wants to be goku but no love for vegeta's hairline
He was the blueprint

JoJo has had quite a few fashion articles written on the parallels between it and real world fashion, esp given that it encompasses decades
omg... how did I forget
sabukaru
Nana and Vivienne Westwood: An Ode to Punk Style — sabukaru
Both the anime and the manga discuss intimacy, trauma, self-determination, and punk-rock identity, topics that dive much deeper into the human experience than other titles in the romance genre. Nana is truly a crash course on Y2K Tokyo subculture style, an underrated source of fashion education a de
she had the male characters wear vivienne too

😌😌
I think he got banned
CBR
The Importance of Fashion in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Understanding the references behind all of the outfits in JJBA will give fans a deeper appreciation of fashion's role in the story.
His pants make me think of the leather meggings guy on instagram
lot of poses are references to other fashion artists and past collections
:caught:
casca can do it all, i love how her golden age armor looks

he had that gucci collab a few years ago which was cool
I need to read berserk fr
Everything I see from it looks insane
(That’s from berserk right?)
Yes berserk is definitely worth the read
Lot of very uncomfortable content though like sa and graphic nudity
disclaimer
Just dropping more mangas with cute realistic clothes

Horimiya made we want piercings (even though the author missed the point of her own manga)
Since we’re doing comics too

Corto Maltese :letsfuckinggo:

Surprised no one else beat me to this (I think?)

Can't forget the suit twink in the top secret

it was a cool shirt
poor mob
veil if you're a real one

the art/fashion on this got me to start it
Matriarchs
Style reminds me of Tada Yumi a bit

gotta throw a vote for yu yu hakusho,

Homer ended up in an insane asylum for wearing a pink shirt.
"These are the wrong trousers, Grommit".
recently told a friend to just dress like Yusuke to look hip

Damn that second one is extremely good
Oh my. This works for me, too.
