Chore Jacket Pocket Buttoning Inward?
Picked up this vintage french chore coat recently and noticed today that the flap over the chest pockets button inward - the flap folds over and buttons down, leaving the button concealed. Curious if there’s a historic reason for this or just a unique design detail?

Is the placket covered as well?
Not unusual in a lot of older workwear especially european stuff. I have a pair of 50’s belgian brushstroke trousers with inward fly button
It is not, buttons fully exposed like normal
Interesting, my thought was that maybe it was to prevent the buttons from getting caught in machinery or something
But if the placket is uncovered then maybe not
