Spier & Mackay suit fit

Just ordered this brushed cotton suit from S&M, it was very on sale and the color and weight are good for a forest-themed wedding I'm going to in the Mendocino mountains this summer. Seems like the jacket is puckering a lot, anything that a tailor might be able to do or am I SOL?

Ah ok first time ordering a suit online, was worried that would void the return policy or something

Spier as usual with a waist that is too trim. Opening the vents at the back could help but I wouldn't do that unless you're sure you're going to keep it. Most of the issues with the jacket can be directly traced to the waist which is too small for you. A tailor can potentially fix it, but it's hard to say how much space you need and how much Spier leaves available

Thanks very helpful! This is the inside of the jacket, not sure if you can tell from the pic what's possible

If it's either of the two visible seams that need to be let out I'm guessing not much

oh I can actually, yeah it looks like there's not much fabric there. A tailor would know more specifically but you can see how nicely the jacket lays when you don't have it buttoned and all of the bunching around your waist when it is buttoned

I missed the center seam in that pic, it has like 1.5" excess material. will take it to a tailor and see what they say the suit was under $300 on sale so I've got some budget to work with and the brushed cotton is so cozy

the center seam in the back won't help as much since what you need is to expand the waist all the way around

to be clear I think it will still be needed, but it's not as simple as letting out all of the seams to their max to get space in the waist your tailor would be able to say more tho I'm just some guy who owns too many suits

1.5” is exactly what Spier says the allowance is on the jacket waist. I got a Spier suit last year that was snug at the button point and made this adjustment.

I’m not sure if you want advice on the rest of the outfit but the shirt seems a little small, it is pulling on the top two buttons

I’m aware, was just wearing it to try on the suit, apparently I’ve either made some gains since 2021 or gotten fat

Given that it’s the top buttons only it looks like shoulder gains. I just lost one on my favorite shirts to that.

Suit has been entrusted to Andreas Gorges tailoring in SF, they're letting the jacket waist out 1" and shortening the sleeves That plus the trouser alterations almost cost as much as the suit lolz

yay thanks, I'm not sure I made the right call cuffing the pants but it seems ok given it's a less formal suit?

Cuffs aren’t really more or less formal. I think the rule of thumb is cuffs with pleats but it’s not a big deal either way I tend to prefer cuffs bc it helps the trousers lay better imo
