Understanding Terrain vs Landscape
Hi there. I was just wondering if somebody could explain a bit about the thought process behind how I should think about when I would want to use the terrain tool vs landscapes.
It wasn’t super obvious to me after reading the docs.

Hey! 🙂
I would say that the Dash terrain tool is better for smaller use-cases, especially since it is easier to use than the UE landscape system.
But you can make the Dash terrain pretty big as well, but not comparable to the UE landscape system 🙂
So if you are doing a small section of an open world environment, or if you are doing some environment art, or some archviz, the Dash terrain may be the easier choice!
I hope this helps! 🙂
What's your thoughts on doing a combination of both? Landscape for general footprint, shape, beach/ocean, etc and then use terrains for more targeted biomes
That's a very good idea for sure. As we have a curve setting in the Dash terrain it is easy to make it blend in with the landscape by setting the curve value to some negative number.
